"I smell something delicious, I'm so hungry, it's 1 o'clock," Er Wa said, walking at the front. He seemed to have caught a scent and ran off.
"You guys, hurry up! I've found a feast." Er Wa poked his head out and called to the others.
Zhang Chen had just swallowed such a large creature. Although it was a ghost, it was still quite filling. He walked slowly at the very back of the group, wearing slippers.
A small painting hanging on the side caught Zhang Chen's attention. He walked over and looked. The painting depicted a Black person holding a shovel, diligently planting trees in a forest.
It wasn't the painting itself that attracted Zhang Chen, but the Black person. Both the action of holding the shovel and digging, and the dark skin, reminded him of the black monster he had just eaten.
"Fichtek Salo," Zhang Chen managed to pronounce the name before him, albeit with difficulty in English phonetics.
"Zhang Chen, let's you and I go to the second floor to take a shower and change. I checked the first floor, and there's no place for us to sleep or rest," Jia Xin's voice came, interrupting Zhang Chen's scrutiny.
"What do you think of this painting?" Zhang Chen asked, seeing Jia Xin approach alone.
"This painting? Hmm, ten out of ten."
Zhang Chen smiled and, with Jia Xin, carried their luggage up to the second floor.
There were quite a few rooms on the second floor. The two of them opened rooms casually, and indeed, they were all bedrooms. However, the size of these rooms was almost as large as Zhang Chen's home.
The room Zhang Chen entered was at the back of the villa. It contained a 2.5-meter bed, a brown wooden wardrobe, a white dressing table, and an en-suite bathroom. Outside the huge window, one could perfectly admire the beautiful scenery of the vast, clear lake.
"If it weren't for the bad things here, this trip would have been very comfortable."
Zhang Chen took off his clothes stained with the monster's black blood and walked into the bathroom. The cool, clear water cascaded over him, instantly dispelling the fatigue from the long car ride.
As he stepped out after changing, he was surprised to see Jia Xin had also just finished. Jia Xin was wearing a tight white shirt and gray shorts. Zhang Chen found it hard to believe that this delicate-looking guy was a descendant of Taoism.
"I wonder how tough this seven-day trip will be. Fortunately, I found this helper, otherwise, I would have suffered." Zhang Chen smiled. The two walked towards the restaurant where the others were heading.
"Jia Xin, what do you think of this house?" Zhang Chen asked as they walked down the stairs.
"Hmm, it's much more troublesome than that guy in the forest."
"Do you have confidence?"
"It's hard to say. We'll take it one step at a time."
The two of them smiled and didn't say anything more.
Pushing open the door, a very large white dining room appeared before Zhang Chen. Inside was a huge dining table, over 7 meters long, laden with European-style dishes: steak, red wine, bacon, roasted pork... everything imaginable. Two dining carts were parked by the table; one was filled with cut fruit, and the other with various Western desserts.
At this moment, no one was sitting primly at the table, dining politely as in the movies. Instead, they were like a group of lunatics, grabbing a chicken leg here, snatching a slice of pizza there, the scene was unbelievably chaotic.
Jia Xin also seemed very hungry and walked directly into the crowd, starting to eat.
Zhang Chen had it easy. He wasn't hungry to begin with. He casually picked up a piece of flatbread and sat down, then took out the map to examine the layout of the rooms.
The map was divided into two parts: one for the first floor and one for the second.
Upon entering the first floor, there was a central hall. To the right of the hall was a corridor. On the right side of the corridor was the dining area. To the right of the dining area was another room, marked as the kitchen.
To the left of the corridor was a dance studio, which seemed to occupy a very large area, as large as the dining area and kitchen combined on the map.
The corridor to the left of the hall led to three other rooms corresponding to those on the right side of the corridor. Corresponding to the dining room was an oil painting room, and corresponding to the dance studio was an indoor swimming pool. However, the last room, the one corresponding to the kitchen, had nothing marked on the map except for a fork.
Zhang Chen didn't pay it much mind and took out the second-floor map. The second floor was quite simple. After going up the spiral staircase from the first floor, one reached the center of the second floor.
The entire second floor was basically divided into left and right sides. The left corridor had three rooms on each side facing each other, and the right side was the same. The central hall was a bar, and there was a large balcony on the side facing the lake. With this layout, even if everyone had a very large bedroom, there would still be a room left over.
After reviewing it, Zhang Chen had a basic understanding of the house. Overall, the first floor was for living and entertainment, and the second floor was for sleeping and resting.
"Wait, it feels like something is missing from the map." Zhang Chen recalled the scene when he first saw the villa after coming out of the forest.
"First floor, second floor, wait, right. When I was outside just now, I vaguely saw a third floor. Compared to the first and second floors, it was much shorter, but it was definitely there. However, I didn't pay much attention when I went up just now. It seems there's no staircase leading up anywhere."
At that time, Zhang Chen had just emerged from the forest and saw the villa as a whole. Everyone thought it was a two-story building. However, Zhang Chen noticed a small level on top of the second floor, only 2 meters high. He initially thought it was a design for the second-floor roof, but seeing two small windows, Zhang Chen was almost certain there was a third floor. Whether there was or not, he would find out later.
Seeing that everyone had almost finished eating, Zhang Chen shared the information he got from the map with everyone, and they reached a consensus. They would first wash the dirty dishes, then go up to the second floor to assign rooms, organize their luggage, and gather in the hall at 3 PM to discuss their plan of action and food distribution.
Once confirmed, everyone started collecting the leftover dishes and taking them to the kitchen. Since there was still a lot of food left on the table, it could basically cover their meals for the evening and the next day.
"Ah, it's ruined," Tan Fei's voice came from the kitchen.
Everyone walked over and saw Tan Fei holding a large roasted pig with both hands.
"There's no refrigerator here. With this hot weather, let alone tomorrow, even tonight many things will spoil," Tan Fei said, looking reluctantly at the roasted pig in his hands.
"And without a refrigerator, the kitchen is also full of only vegetables. Seven days! You want me to eat only vegetables?" Not only Tan Fei, but some of the people from the first middle school also looked unhappy.
"Okay, okay, there's a lake behind us. We'll find some fishing rods later and catch a couple of fish. Also, this lunch was made by the tour group because we arrived late. From now on, we'll have to rely on ourselves. Let's pack the things that will spoil into plastic bags and take them outside the villa to prevent them from stinking later."
Zhang Chen's words made a lot of sense, and Tan Fei couldn't argue much, so he threw away the roasted pig. Then, the girls started hoping, while the boys packed up the leftovers and threw them out of the villa.
"Oh man, I'm exhausted. I've never washed dishes or thrown out trash at home. Ugh, it's so hot," Tan Fei said.
"No wonder you've got so much fat on your body. Stop the nonsense and carry your luggage up to the second floor. Maybe there's air conditioning in the second-floor rooms," Zhang Chen said.
So, everyone wiped the sweat from their brows and carried their luggage up to the second floor. Zhang Chen naturally helped Wang Yizhi carry her things upstairs.
After everyone got to the second floor, they were overjoyed to see such large bedrooms, but now they needed to assign rooms.
"I think it's better if we from the two middle schools are separated," said a curly-haired girl from the first middle school.
"I have no objections," Tan Fei said first, because he saw Jia Xin looking like he hated everything.
"Then it's settled. We from Yufang will stay on the left side, and you from the first middle school will stay on the right side. We won't interfere with how you divide them," Zhang Chen thought it was good too. It would be much livelier with his classmates together, and they could look out for each other.
So, everyone split into two groups. However, Zhang Chen first went to the room on the right to retrieve his luggage.
Since Tan Fei and the others were tagging along with Zhang Chen and Wang Yizhi, they decided to let Zhang Chen and Wang Yizhi choose first.
After some discussion among the group, the two girls felt that the room was too large and would be a bit scary at night, so they decided to share a room.
At Zhang Chen's suggestion, although the rooms by the lake had better views, the windows there also had doors leading to an outside balcony, which wasn't very safe for the girls. Therefore, the two girls were assigned the second room from the front of the villa. Besides, the view outside was an endless expanse of trees, offering a different kind of charm.
Zhang Chen took the room directly opposite them, the middle room by the lake.
Er Wa naturally chose the outermost room by the lake with the better view. But for some reason, Tan Fei chose the outermost room by the forest.
With that settled, after tidying up his things in his room, Zhang Chen walked around the second-floor corridor. He couldn't find any stairs leading to the third floor, and judging by the height of the second floor, the third floor was definitely there.
"This house seems to have quite a few strange aspects."
Zhang Chen didn't dwell on it for now. He walked to Wang Yizhi's room and knocked, pretending to check on their environment, but actually making preparations.
Zhang Chen smiled and walked in. The room was furnished the same as his, and there was no sense of danger. However, he still felt uneasy, as the house itself was inherently dangerous.
While Wang Yizhi and Dai Xu weren't paying attention, a red Blood Beetle emerged from Zhang Chen's left palm. Under Zhang Chen's mental command, it flew into their wardrobe. If any danger arose, Zhang Chen would know immediately.
After a while, Wang Yizhi and the other girl finished tidying up and were about to take a bath, so Zhang Chen had to leave. He met up with Er Wa and Tan Fei, and the three of them went to the balcony, each finding a lounge chair and lying down.
"Everything about this place is great, except for one thing. What do you think, Tan Fei?" Er Wa said, lounging in his chair.
"Second Brother, you want to play WoW again?"
"Can you two just stop thinking about playing computer games?" Zhang Chen was speechless at these two. Lying here amidst the mountains and water, they were still thinking about playing games.
"Oh right, why were those guys from the First High School suddenly so polite to us? Even though I still dislike them."
"They must have been scared by my exquisite equipment," Er Wa suddenly pulled out his Swiss Army knife from his beach shorts again.
"You really carry it with you all the time." Zhang Chen said.
"Of course. This house is so strange. If something suddenly pops out, I'll chop it down with one stroke."
"What's strange about it?" Zhang Chen suddenly became serious.
"The rooms are a bit big, and the beds are too large. Sleeping alone feels so empty."
"Ugh..." Zhang Chen was truly speechless.
The three of them lay on the balcony, laughing. Perhaps even Zhang Chen himself didn't know how terrifying things he was about to face.
