Wang Yizhi initially appears as Xie Wen's younger cousin and a classmate of Zhang Chen. She becomes the target of a supernatural curse that turns one fingernail red each day, with death expected after ten days. Although frightened by the threat, she trusts Zhang Chen's reassurance and keeps much of her fear to herself 17 18 20.

Zhang Chen protects her through the nail-covered entity and the Yang Zi basement incident. After Xie Wen's death, Wang Yizhi is more distressed by her cousin's fate than by her own near-death experience, accepting Zhang Chen's supernatural explanation with striking calmness 18 25. Their relationship becomes public among their classmates and is later confirmed with both families' approval 26 28.

Her seemingly ordinary identity conceals a long history of planning around Zhang Chen. She guides Liu Nuo's development and infiltration activities, later describing herself as someone who had played roles tailored to the inner obsessions of numerous test subjects 622 695 748.
