Background and History

Luo Family upbringing and the Scholar Examination

Luo Qingqing was raised within the You Province Luo Family, whose Qi Sensitive members were renowned for their breadth of learning as the “All-Things Heavenly Knowledge.” Luo You'er is her junior sister but not her blood relative; both were taken into the family by chance. Qingqing read extensively from the Luo Family Library Pavilion and became known as an outstanding talent of her generation. 19 52 215

During the Scholar Examination at Qingshan Town, she demonstrated a pragmatic belief in order. When Fei Nian sought to monopolize a Spirit Fire collection area for a day, Qingqing accepted his proposal rather than provoke an unnecessary conflict, reasoning that even an imperfect order was preferable to chaos. 8

She later investigated the strange mountain tracks and mass grave near Qingshan Town, publicly presenting the evidence that the examinees were not truly in Qingshan Town and urging them to withdraw. Her decision exposed the Luo Family to scrutiny, drawing criticism from Luo Fengqing. 18 20

Although Xia Fan initially became entangled with her through the Spirit Fire incident and a misunderstanding over her reputation, Qingqing came to recognize his integrity and ability. She gave him talismans, testified to his contribution during the examination crisis, and fought beside him during the defense of Qingshan Town. 25 32 35

Imperial Sorcery Internal Guard

After the examination, Consort Luo Yufei personally selected Qingqing to serve as the Fourth Prince Ning Chunan's Imperial Sorcery Internal Guard, promising her advancement to Shifeng after two years. Qingqing accepted out of duty despite wanting a role where she could use her knowledge and abilities to improve the world's order. 82 98

Her post gradually became intolerable. Ning Chunan treated her professionalism and distance as rejection, pressured her to accompany his leisure activities, and became increasingly possessive after learning of her past association with Xia Fan. 129 175

When Ning Chunan attempted to force himself on her by threatening a maid, Qingqing disarmed and injured him rather than submit. She then surrendered to the guards and was imprisoned by the Dali Temple. 176

At her trial, Consort Luo used Xia Fan's letter to imply that Qingqing had concealed a secret affair, while Luo Fengqing pressured her to apologize and accept blame. Qingqing was sentenced to fifty cane strokes and exile to Ling Province without a fair investigation. 177 178 179

Exile, loss, and awakening

While being escorted into exile, Qingqing was attacked alongside Luo Tang and Luo Changtian. She fought the attackers with delayed casting and Flying Flower Flame, but Luo Tang was killed during the assault; the later deaths of both Luo Tang and Luo Changtian became central to Qingqing's pursuit of justice. 196 197 320

She eventually arrived at Wuming Village grievously injured and blind. There, she reflected on her former understanding of order and chaos, then awakened the power that would become her Listener ability. Despite her condition, she protected the villagers from armed pursuers and defeated Fangshi Shi, a Myriad-Edge practitioner. 198 199 200

Taking responsibility for the danger brought to Wuming Village, Qingqing financed and organized the relocation of twenty-six households to Jinxia City. She refused to abandon the villagers until they had property deeds and homes. 201 206

Alliance with Jinxia

At Jinxia's gates, Qingqing reunited with Xia Fan and met Li. Though she intended to return alone to Shangyuan City and confront the imperial family, Xia Fan persuaded her that Jinxia needed someone with her abilities. 206

Xia Fan brought her before Princess Guangping, Ning Wanjun. After recounting her ordeal and her desire to reshape Shangyuan City's power structure, Qingqing joined their alliance. Her reunion with Luo You'er helped her recover from the emotional detachment she had adopted after exile. 207 208

In Jinxia, Qingqing studied unfamiliar subjects, observed the Affairs Bureau's policies, and reconsidered what a good order could be. The successful integration of the Wuming villagers and the city's investment in education convinced her that order could be built through care for ordinary people rather than merely imposed through force. 220 221

Vengeance and wider conflicts

Qingqing later confronted Ning Chunan in prison and killed him for his role in the destruction of the Luo Family and the deaths of Luo Tang and Luo Changtian. A mysterious White Gate appeared after the killing, foreshadowing the deeper nature of her Listener power. 320

She fought alongside Jinxia in its conflicts with the Bureau of Military Affairs and the Empire, using Dragon Scales to counter powerful Fangshi, break formations, and defeat opponents such as Luo Aoying and Luo Bairen. 322 470 471 486

After leaving Jinxia to study regions still governed by the old order, Qingqing returned to You Province and found Qianren City devastated by famine, purges, and Lu Qiheng's rule. The destruction of the Luo Family Library Pavilion and its use as a cremation ground hardened her resolve. Appearance

After her exile, Luo Qingqing commonly wears simple white robes and a gray cloth blindfold. Her long black hair reaches her waist, and her impaired ordinary vision gives her an aloof, almost otherworldly presence. 208 735
