Background

Li was found as a child in a bamboo forest and raised by Li Mengyun, an Azure Blade formerly attached to the Bureau of Military Affairs. Li calls Mengyun her master, crediting her with teaching her everything she knows, including Sorcery Art and the Bureau's inner workings 22 93. Li later learns that Li Mengyun is also her biological mother; Mengyun had been coerced by the Emperor through her child during the purge of independent Fangshi and subsequently vanished after an Evil Spirit attack en route to judgment 296.

After Li Mengyun was captured, Li sought revenge against the Bureau of Military Affairs. Her attempt to act against it in Qingshan Town brought her into conflict with Sentinel Ba Xingtian. She used Moonlight Radiance and careful misdirection, but was critically wounded and forced to flee into the forest rather than submit to capture 12.

Xia Fan found and sheltered the injured Li. Initially suspicious of his motives, she was unsettled by his decision to call her a “partner” and offer long-term cooperation rather than demand repayment 21. She subsequently travelled openly with him under the cover identity of his junior sister and began building a life outside hiding 44.

Li later confronted the possibility that demons and humans share a common heritage. Rather than pursue unknown kin, she chose to accept her past and focus on the life she had built in the present 93.

Li can pass as a young human woman when concealing her demonic traits, though her Fox Demon features become prominent when she drops the disguise.

Her resentment toward the Bureau originates in loyalty to Li Mengyun's memory rather than simple hatred of humans 12 21.

Beneath her guarded manner, Li is compassionate and highly protective. She shields Wu Lie from an attack despite his earlier attempt to harm her, then recognizes that his actions were driven by threats against his sister 447. At Yuetai Villa, she rejects Qiongqi's belief that the weak are disposable and believes people can change when given the courage and example to resist 449.

Li remains self-conscious about being visibly different. She once despised her tail as a mark of demonhood and later worries that her second tail is ugly or unnatural 103 462. Her aspiration to become the “King of Ten Thousand Yao” reflects both her pride in her identity and her wish to give demons a place where they need not hide 462 868.
