The next morning, before the first ray of dawn had pierced through Shrek Academy's morning mist, Sea God Pavilion was already shrouded in a grave, deathly silence.
Elder Song, temporarily holding the academy's authority, sat rigidly in Mu En's former seat of honor. She clutched two letters whose ink had yet to dry, her knuckles white from the force of her grip. All color had drained from her aged face, and her body trembled faintly, as though she might faint at any moment.
Each piece of news in those two letters struck like a thunderclap, enough to drag Shrek Academy, which had only just barely calmed after Mu En's death, back into an endless storm of catastrophe.
Elder Song took a deep breath, trying to settle the churning blood and energy in her chest, but her ragged breathing exposed the panic in her heart.
The seat where she now sat had been Mu En's for decades. No matter how great the crisis in the past, as long as Mu En was here, everyone had someone to lean on.
But now that pillar had shattered. Faced with these two sudden mountains pressing down on her, she was at a complete loss, utterly unsure how to respond.
Elder Zhuang, seated below her, was the first to recover from his shock. He lightly tapped the table, breaking the suffocating silence, and proposed in a hoarse voice, "Elder Song, Elder Long's body... Star Luo Empire has already sent it back. Should we go take a look now?"
As soon as he spoke, the atmosphere in Sea God Pavilion grew even heavier, as if the air itself had frozen.
The elders present all wore solemn expressions. No one spoke, and every gaze gathered on Elder Song.
