Background / History

Chen Ping'an selected Luopo Mountain while choosing mountain heads from a map. A bird defecated precisely over its name, which he interpreted as a possible sign from a mountain spirit; despite its supposedly inauspicious name and location on the southwestern border of Longquan County, he chose it alongside Baolu Mountain, Caiyun Peak, Xiancao Mountain, and Zhenzhu Mountain. The five-mountain contract ran for three hundred years and granted him rights to the mountains’ resources, wildlife, medicinal materials, and undiscovered treasures. 80

Luopo Mountain was initially the most valuable of Chen Ping'an’s five holdings. A newly appointed Great Li Mountain God helped gather its spiritual energy, leaving it inferior only to Piyun Mountain and Ruan Qiong’s Dengdeng Mountain among the local peaks. 101 105

Upon Chen Ping'an’s return, Wei Bo was overseeing extensive construction on the mountain and built him a bamboo residence. Luopo Mountain later possessed a mountain-gate archway and a summit Mountain God Temple, though the resident deity, Song Yuzhang, had an uneasy relationship with both the mountain and Wei Bo. 179 461 688

The mountain’s Ancestral Hall was completed on Jise Peak, where portraits of Qi Jingchun and Cui Cheng were enshrined and an incense ceremony was held. Further construction followed, with Zhu Lian drafting more than thirty buildings along the central axis from the peak’s archway upward. 571 572

Luopo Mountain formally became a sect under Chen Ping'an in the Jise Peak Ancestral Hall ceremony. The sect subsequently began planning a lower sect in Tongye Continent, later established as Qingping Sword Sect. 767 1038

Geography and Features

Luopo Mountain is part of the western mountain range around the former Pearl Cave Heaven. Its jurisdiction includes connected waterways, as a Mountain God’s domain conventionally extends in varying degrees to streams originating from the mountain and rivers passing its foot. 189

Sword Formation

Chen Ping'an assembled this formation gradually and frugally, “like a swallow building its nest.” It serves as one of the mountain’s principal defenses. 1000

Secondary Guardian Formation

A second protective formation resulted from an encounter with an elderly Daoist priest at the mountain gate. Chen Ping'an also established a protective formation using the Sword Immortal Scroll Painting. 770 1000
