How Did You Do It?

The room was dim, thick with the stench of blood.

The Wanted Criminal was dragged before him, his breathing weak.

"What were you looking for when you came here?" Wu Heng asked.

The Wanted Criminal coughed up a mouthful of blood and gritted his teeth. "If I tell you, will you let me go?"

"Do you think you can still leave?"

"A fair trade. You let me go, and I'll tell you what we were looking for."

They had come to his home to kill him, and they still wanted to talk about a fair trade.

"Were you here for the document with the snake head that Bartholomew had on him?" Wu Heng continued.

When he had first killed Bartholomew...

The only unusual thing had been that document stamped with a snake head. He did not know what it was for, but it was the only thing that stood out.

The other man did not answer, but the slight stiffening of his body told Wu Heng he had guessed right.

There was nothing else worth asking. He said directly, "Kill him."

The corpse went limp, and the notification appeared instantly.

That night had earned both him and the skeletons quite a bit of experience.

Wu Heng looked at the corpse on the ground, then at the skeletons standing by in the room.

Bartholomew, whom he had stationed outside, had yet to return.

He turned on the flashlight and began searching the corpse.

If they let someone escape again, it would truly never end.

Now, it seemed they had timed their entry precisely and had not stationed anyone outside.

"Carry the bodies into the living room, then all of you return to the Portal," Wu Heng ordered.

The bodies were placed on leather padding and carried into the living room.

The skeletons in the room returned directly to the Portal.

Early the next morning.

Dense footsteps sounded outside the door.

The door was kicked open. Captain Ortluk, Cavina, and several other Adventurer Team members rushed inside.

Weapons in hand, they warily swept their gazes across the house.

When they saw Wu Heng sitting in a chair, with three dead bodies neatly laid out at his feet, everyone who entered froze.

"Wu Heng, are you all right?" Ortluk immediately asked.

"Yeah, it's nothing serious," Wu Heng replied, his gaze shifting to the people opposite him.

Behind Ortluk, besides Cavina, stood a woman in leather armor. She had wheat-colored skin, brown hair braided into plaits, a wooden staff in hand, and a sword hanging at her waist.

Wu Heng had seen her before. He had not known who she was then, but now he could guess. She was Tulisa, the captain of Team Two.

The only female captain among the four teams.

Behind her stood several men. One wore Silver Armor and carried a shield and sword, while three wore leather armor, some holding bows and others swords. They were all Team Two members.

Seeing that Wu Heng was unharmed, they first breathed a sigh of relief, only for their expressions to turn from relaxed to stunned.

Their gazes fell once more upon the three corpses on the floor.

"Are these three all Wanted Criminals? Did you kill them?" Tulisa asked.

Team Two's mission the previous night had also been to capture a Wanted Criminal.

They had made thorough preparations, had guards seal off the area, and even brought in Ortluk and Cavina for help.

Only then had they managed to kill their target.

Yet this newcomer, whom none of the teams had thought highly of and whom Ortluk had only reluctantly taken in due to a lack of personnel, had killed three.

How was that possible?

One of Team Two's members stepped forward to inspect the corpses. He nodded. "They're all Wanted Criminals with bounties on them."

After he spoke, both sides fell silent again.

Tulisa asked in surprise, "You killed them?"

Everyone's gazes returned to Wu Heng, then shifted to the upright figure beside him wearing a round helmet.

The Wanted Criminal situation had become quite serious in Blackstone Town lately.

The new member of Fourth Squad had killed three Wanted Criminals. He was probably about to cause quite a stir again.

I should have recruited this Necromancer. Even taking him on as a reserve member would have been fine.

Ortluk finally came to his senses and introduced her. "Wu Heng, this is Tulisa, the captain of Team Two. If anything comes up when I'm not around, you can go to her."

"Tulisa, we'll need your help taking the three bodies back. Cavina, take Wu Heng back to the association for a checkup and see if he's injured," Ortluk immediately said, cutting off her attempt to poach him.

Tulisa nodded. Someone behind her took out Body Bags, wrapped up the corpses, and prepared to carry them away.

Cavina called over a carriage outside and took Wu Heng to the association first.

Inside the carriage.

Cavina crossed her long legs and looked at him. "You could consider renting a place in the Central District. It would be safer there, and closer to the association."

He had considered it too.

After all, he had some money now. He could rent a better home and live in a better environment.

But it had remained only a plan, never put into action.

The crowded district had worse conditions, but it drew less attention. No one cared what he bought and brought back.

It also made it easier for him to transport goods back and forth.

If he lived in the Central District, it would be easy for people to take notice of him.

"I'll save up a little more first," Wu Heng said casually.

"When the time comes, you can have the captain help you find a place."

"Sure!"

Behind them.

Inside another carriage.

Tulisa glanced at Ortluk across from her and said, "You're pretty lucky!"
