Background / History

Lumine is a world-traveling protagonist who claims to have traversed multiple worlds and had already traveled throughout Teyvat before the story’s early events 2. She had saved Mondstadt and was taking commissions to pay for Paimon’s meals, though the Adventurers’ Guild eventually limited her to four commissions per day to preserve work for other adventurers 2 57.

She is Aether’s younger sister. Their relationship is close but teasing: Aether has secretly checked on her, while Lumine calls him her “lousy brother” and disputes the implications of their alternate protagonist roles 143. As Aether’s blood relative, she is considered a Princess of the Abyss by Abyssal Apostle Torrent, though Aether asks Torrent not to use the title publicly because of the Abyss Order’s reputation 451.

After arriving in Inazuma in search of Electro Crystals for Butler, Lumine and Paimon were immediately captured by the Shogunate because the Raiden Shogun regarded them as threats to eternity 438 439. Venti and Zhongli assisted in securing her initial escape, and Lumine later evaded Narukami Island with Paimon and Dimiurge’s aid before reaching the Resistance on Watatsumi Island 444 510 514. She joined the Resistance, rose to captain the Swordfish II Division, and trained its soldiers into a more formidable force 549 593 634 673. Her opposition to the Raiden Shogun developed from necessity—she and Paimon were wanted—but became a commitment to helping Inazuma even at severe personal risk 550 731 736. By the time she recovered from the Evil Eye factory incident, the Sakoku Decree and Vision Hunt Decree had been lifted, with Beidou suggesting Lumine had played a role in the outcome 748.

Appearance

Lumine is a blonde young woman. She is commonly identified by her golden hair and is referred to as a “Golden Retriever” by onlookers during the Rite of Descension 140.

  • Blonde or golden hair 140 363
  • Wields the Edge of the Void Sword, an unsharpened training sword 57 552
  • Has used a phone from another world for photography 92
  • Wore high-tech clothing and goggles during the Elemental War competition 675
  • Used Omni-Directional Mobility Gear during the Mount Akina Race 820

Personality

Lumine is confident, theatrical, and keenly aware of her identity as a protagonist. She openly claims that protagonists can “do whatever they want,” enjoys being praised, and frequently treats difficult situations with humor or bravado 221.

She is deeply motivated by practical concerns, especially Mora, food, and Primogems. Her need to fund Paimon’s meals drives her commission work, while the offer of 50,000 Primogems immediately transforms her into a fiercely determined competitor 57 678. She can be hot-tempered when cheated or embarrassed, including angrily confronting an Electro Crystal seller and venting on training dummies after a thunder-related scare 363 673.

Lumine’s humor can be morbid and mischievous, especially toward Paimon. She casually calls Paimon Emergency Food and has described killing and stewing her, confident that Paimon will return afterward 89 92. She is also prone to impulsive, self-serving behavior, such as secretly harvesting trees and mineral deposits for her Serenitea Pot 250.

Despite her selfish jokes and tendency to flee unwanted errands, Lumine repeatedly helps others. She accepts Cloud Retainer’s request to guide Shenhe after seeing a quest marker, mediates disputes, visits injured Resistance soldiers, and is willing to gamble her strength to save Inazuma 84 451 552 736.

Leadership and Strategy

Lumine demonstrates tactical thinking as a Resistance captain.

  • Uses misinformation spread through local children to lure Shogunate soldiers away from their post 510.
  • Trains Resistance soldiers to build a formidable force 634.
  • Earns the respect of Resistance members through her strength and role in their cause 549 555.
  • Her authority inspires soldiers strongly enough that Dimiurge can manipulate them into training harder by claiming she is disappointed in them 674.
