Three days after taking office, late at night, ten Squadron Leaders gathered in the barracks of the Seventh Battalion of Star Moon Fort's Outer Garrison. They stared at the new letter of appointment placed in the center of the round table, each wearing a different expression.
The youngest Squadron Leader's face was full of indignation. He raised his right hand and slammed it down on the table, venting his dissatisfaction.
The middle-aged man seated at the head of the table looked at the roaring officer and rebuked him in a low voice, "Calm down."
"What is the background of this new Deputy Captain? Does anyone know?" an officer asked, raising his head.
"I don't know, but his background must be considerable." An officer shook his head, his face full of helplessness. "To clear the way for him, our Deputy Captain was directly promoted and transferred to another unit as a Battalion Commander."
"Under normal procedures, a standard promotion would take at least a month. But this order was issued the day before yesterday, the man left yesterday, and he may have already reported in today."
An experienced officer lightly tapped the table with his finger, drawing everyone's attention, before slowly speaking. "In my opinion, this new Deputy Captain probably won't stay here for long. So I think we can just put him on a pedestal."
"No matter what orders he gives, we should simply carry them out and try not to offend him."
"Old El is right," an officer agreed. "No matter what, once he takes office, he'll be our immediate superior. Even if we don't respect him, we can't openly oppose him. After all, the first requirement when we enlisted was to memorize the military regulations proficiently."
"I trust everyone here knows the consequences of disobeying a superior's orders."
