He had thought he would spend a few years mining, then return to life as a civilian once the war ended.

No one had expected anyone to escape.

Facing death, he could only stand up and gamble on a slim chance of survival.

Fortunately, luck had been on his side, and the general had agreed.

Although he suspected that the escape of those dozens of prisoners had been a setup, he could only play dumb despite knowing the truth. He dared not tell anyone, or he would die a horrible death.

After hearing Eze's account, the priestess reached out and patted his shoulder. "From your perspective, all I can say is that you've had a terrible time."

Eze gave an awkward smile. "It hasn't really been that terrible. At least I'm still alive."

"What do you think of the Goddess of Life?"

As the priestess asked her question, Eze saw out of the corner of his eye that she had placed her hand on the Priest's Scepter. He immediately answered, "If possible, I'd like to hear the story of this great deity."

The priestess's eyes lit up. She picked up the scepter and tossed it aside, then took out a copy of the Life Bible and placed it in his hands. "I'll teach you to read while telling you about My God's glorious past."

"Oh, all right. Thank you."

"You're welcome," the priestess replied with a smile. "My teacher said that every deity willing to believe in the Goddess of Life is a potential brother or sister of our flesh and blood."

"Of course, my teacher also said that we should use the Priest's Scepter to smash the skulls of deceivers."

A chill ran down Eze's back at those words.

Looking into those innocent eyes, he had no doubt that
