After leaving the grand theater, Velin reshaped his appearance and continued strolling through the city with Xuemya.
"A beggar?"
Halfway through their walk, Velin noticed a ragged man sitting against a wall, and a trace of surprise flashed through his eyes.
Under the Qixing Army's governance, beggars had nearly vanished. Yet one had appeared right before his eyes. Most likely, some officials had been neglecting their duties.
He took several silver coins from his pocket and tossed them before the beggar.
As the coins hit the ground, the beggar leaning against the wall raised his head. His clouded eyes stared at Velin, giving no hint of what he was thinking.
"Take..."
Before he could finish, a youth passing by the beggar stepped on the coins. Pretending to squat down and brush dust from his shoes, he slipped the silver coins from the ground into his pocket.
"Hm?"
Seeing this, Velin realized something was off.
He carefully observed his surroundings and found that everyone nearby was turning a blind eye to the beggar.
"Interesting."
"Looks like you have quite a background."
The beggar said nothing. He merely lowered his head again and continued staring blankly into space.
Velin walked up to the beggar, reached out, and grabbed him. Then he opened the door to his Demiplane and dragged him inside.
Seeing this, Xuemya followed him into the Demiplane.
On a hill, Velin threw the beggar onto the ground, wanting to see how he would react. The man rolled with the fall, then lay sprawled on the slope with an attitude that said, do whatever you want—kill him or hang him.
Seeing him like this, Velin became interested. He crouched down and said with a smile, "You should be a cleric of the Church of the God of Holy Blood, shouldn't you?"
