In the first half of Radiant Calendar 9754, the Blackrock Army underwent two expansions, swelling from twelve thousand men to thirty thousand. It was divided into ten camps of three thousand men each, with Carlisle and Ferri commanding five camps apiece.
Under the two of them, Velin selected four men from the surrendered nobles and officers to serve as deputy commanders of the Blackrock Army, achieving a balance of power.
As for the Thousand Forts Army, with his tacit approval, it had fully taken over the defense of the ancient Gorge Mountain Road in Stovia District and Thousand Fortresses Province. It was responsible for collecting grain, levying commercial taxes, suppressing rebellions, armed missionary work, and various other matters.
When they reached the border between Stovia District and Beijiao District, two people suddenly emerged from the distant wilderness. They looked at the army on the road, then glanced back at the commotion behind them before quickly crossing the road and slipping into another field.
Mounted on a Red Phosphorus Horse, Velin watched the scene with some curiosity and turned to Kyle. "How about we make a bet?"
Kyle watched the movement in the fields, his eyes flickering. He nodded and asked, "My lord, what are we betting on?"
Hearing Kyle's question, Velin's lips curled slightly. "A man and a woman, both weak, traveling in a hurry, constantly looking back with wariness and fear in their eyes. Someone must be chasing them. I'm guessing they're a couple eloping. What do you think?"
