Background

Nawaki is a direct descendant of the Senju Clan and the grandson of the First Hokage, Hashirama Senju. He grew up aware that the once-prominent Senju had become sparse, but initially valued clan glory above all else and reacted angrily to criticism of Hashirama. 3

His first meeting with Uchiha Shin began with an argument over Hashirama’s legacy. Nawaki attempted to settle it with a punch, but Shin immobilized him with Illusion Arts and trapped him in a realistic dream of becoming Hokage. Nawaki woke half an hour later, accepted that Shin had not meant to harm him, and swore to defeat him someday. 3

At the Ninja Academy, Nawaki’s rivalry with Shin continued through public arguments and repeated challenges. After their early clash became a source of embarrassment, he trained obsessively at the Senju grounds, carving Shin’s name into wooden stakes and destroying them with his fists. 4 14
