Xue Xiao Ran watched the students standing in the Soul Fighting Arena, paying particular attention to the older students.
Most of the older students fighting the freshmen on the Soul Fighting Arena stage had three-ring cultivation, while a few had two rings.
However, the battles were all one-sided. The older students from Sun Moon Royal Academy easily defeated the freshmen. Having studied at the academy for around a year already, it was perfectly normal for their combat abilities to surpass those of the freshmen.
The only thing that made Xue Xiao Ran feel the atmosphere was fairly good was that the older students neither grew arrogant in victory nor discouraged in defeat. They were completely treating these battles as opportunities to guide the freshmen.
"Next, Xue Xiao Ran." The referee teacher at the side called out loudly.
Xue Xiao Ran gave a quiet acknowledgment, knowing it was his turn.
The moment he stepped into the Soul Fighting Arena, the older students in the stands began discussing him. Most of their comments concerned Xue Xiao Ran's appearance. Many of the senior girls whispered to one another as they stared at his face, their cheeks slightly flushed.
Xue Xiao Ran handed the document in his hand to the teacher maintaining order nearby, then shook out his hands and stood in the center of the Soul Fighting Arena.
Though he had not used any soul skill or Martial Soul Possession, simply standing there already gave off an innate sense of ease.
"Silence!" Hearing the continued whispers from the stands, the teacher maintaining order could not help roaring. He then nodded at Xue Xiao Ran. "Which student would like to guide this freshman?"
"I will!"
"Me, me, me, me!"
Quite a few students raised their hands, but unexpectedly, most of them were girls.
The old man beside them coughed. "Enough!"
"Nana, you go."
He glanced at the students from his class seated in the stands before withdrawing his gaze.
"Alright."
The newcomer had dark-red hair tied in a ponytail. Her slender figure and yellow school uniform lent her a gallant, heroic air.
Though her eyes were gentle, they faintly revealed a sharpness.
She strode on her long legs to the center of the Soul Fighting Arena and nodded to the referee teacher at the side.
"Nana."
She spoke to Xue Xiao Ran.
Realizing she was greeting him, Xue Xiao Ran replied just as calmly, "Xue Xiao Ran."
"Both sides, summon your Martial Souls!"
Since this was not an official match but merely practice, the referee would have both sides release their Martial Souls before the battle. This was also an excellent opportunity for freshmen to grow and learn.
The aura around Nana fluctuated, and an adorable Spirit Body appeared behind her. It mischievously laughed at Xue Xiao Ran, seeming almost alive.
At the same time, two yellow and one purple soul rings appeared around the Spirit Body, clearly the optimal Soul Ring Configuration.
"Rank 31, Martial Soul: Ghost, Agile Attack Control System Soul Master. Nana, please guide me."
She smiled.
Xue Xiao Ran kept both hands in his pockets. Without any visible movement, one yellow and one purple soul ring floated beside him.
"Thousand-year!"
A teacher nearby gasped softly. This freshman's second soul ring was actually a thousand-year one!
"A good seedling." They exchanged glances, their eyes filled with fervent delight.
In the stands, the older students stared at the scene in shock. This was also the first time they had seen a Soul Master whose second soul ring was a thousand-year ring.
"How hadn't this guy exploded from the strain?"
One senior student muttered to himself.
Under countless gazes, Xue Xiao Ran slowly spoke. "Rank 25, Martial Soul: Extreme Poison, Control System Soul Master. Please guide me."
Upon hearing the words "Extreme Poison," Nana could not help looking at Xue Xiao Ran again. Clearly, she did not understand what Extreme Poison meant either.
After the two backed away several steps from each other, the referee waved his hand. "Begin!"
Nana stood where she was, apparently intending to let Xue Xiao Ran attack first. She was very confident. A six-rank difference in Soul Power was extremely apparent in battle. If she attacked first, Xue Xiao Ran would probably be sent flying out of the Soul Fighting Arena in a single blow.
Though this was her first time meeting Xue Xiao Ran, she had a fairly good impression of the handsome freshman, so she intended to leave him some dignity.
Seeing that Nana did not attack, Xue Xiao Ran snorted inwardly. He lightly tapped off the ground and charged forward, sending a straight punch directly at Nana's face.
Nana smiled faintly. Twisting her slender waist, she easily dodged Xue Xiao Ran's straight punch. At the same time, the Ghost behind her gave a low chuckle and slipped into Nana's shadow.
Xue Xiao Ran was not disappointed when his attack missed. Instead, he threw another punch, his Thunder God Fist roaring with force.
He was also constantly watching the Ghost's movements. When he saw the faint smile at Nana's lips, he immediately performed a backflip and retreated several steps.
Just then, he had narrowly avoided the Ghost's mental attack.
The Ghost had not emerged from Nana's shadow, but from Xue Xiao Ran's shadow instead.
The Ghost made another funny face before returning to Nana's body, making her even faster.
"Junior Brother, why do your attacks resemble those of an Assault System Soul Master?"
Nana was already breathing lightly. Punches infused with Soul Power were not so easy to dodge. She had been struck several times, but because Xue Lei Han's Soul Power was far too different from Nana's, she only felt a jolt and a tightness in her chest.
"It's over."
Xue Xiao Ran did not answer Nana's question.
Unexpectedly, he did not attack again or step forward. Instead, he silently waited where he stood.
"Three, two, one, fall."
He lightly snapped his fingers. Nana's beautiful eyes widened in disbelief as she slowly collapsed in response.
"Xue Xiao Ran wins!"
The referee teacher at the side shouted loudly.
"Nicely done!" For some reason, the freshmen began cheering as well. Xue Xiao Ran's victory over a stronger opponent gave them confidence and the same exhilarating sense of having held their heads high.
The old man sighed. "Nana, that child, was still too careless."
"But that child truly has outstanding talent. He deliberately got close to Nana and used the wind from his punches to carry the poison into her nose and mouth. That strategy is quite sinister. I like it." The old man chuckled.
"Colorless and odorless poison? If this child is properly nurtured, his future achievements will be impossible to predict."
The teacher beside him nodded with a smile and drew a large checkmark on the paper.
The older students in the stands also applauded. Xue Xiao Ran nodded in acknowledgment, and his one yellow and one purple soul rings vanished at once. Even the Paralysis Poison within Nana's body was withdrawn.
The old man stood beside Nana and began quietly, rapidly pointing out the gains and mistakes from her battle.
"Teacher." Nana hesitated. "I can't stand up. Could someone help me?"
The old man nodded and called out loudly, "Xue Xiao Ran!"
Xue Xiao Ran had just stepped down from the stage when he heard someone calling him. Turning around, he saw an elderly teacher, with Nana slumped beside him.
"Is there anything else?"
Xue Xiao Ran clasped his hands and asked.
"My student cannot stand because of your poison. I want you to help her to the Infirmary now." The old man coughed and said calmly, "You should take responsibility, shouldn't you?"
"Mm, no problem." Xue Xiao Ran nodded. As he walked over to the old man, the latter handed him a Student ID.
"Not bad fighting. Your practical combat experience is good. Work hard from now on!"
Xue Xiao Ran accepted the Student ID. It resembled a card, with his photograph and name printed on it.
"Thank you, Teacher." He clasped his hands.
"Go on." The old man patted Xue Xiao Ran's shoulder in satisfaction, then returned to the Judge Stand.
Xue Xiao Ran tucked the student card into his pocket, extended a hand to Nana, and asked, "Senior Sister, can you stand?"
Nana studied Xue Xiao Ran's calm expression and his emotionless Jade Eyes, then nodded.
"I can, but walking alone will be a little difficult."
Nana took Xue Xiao Ran's hand and leaned on him as the two limped toward the Infirmary.
Yet from the stands came the sound of many senior students' hearts breaking.
