Background / History

Gu You took part in Soul Hall's assault on Starfall Pavilion as its Second Heavenly Venerate. Alarmed by Yao Chen's greatly improved strength and soul realm, he advised retreat; Great Heavenly Venerate Bone Blade rejected his caution and condemned him as useless. 4

During the Soul Hall's campaign in the Northwestern Continent, Gu You arrived at Xuanhuang Fortress after the Soul Hall's forces besieged it. He intended to profit from the battle by collecting the souls of the dead, then sought to capture Yao Ling's exceptionally powerful soul when she disrupted that plan. Her Heaven Realm Great Perfection soul clone overwhelmed the wider battlefield, and Gu You was injured and forced to withdraw. 50 51

To secure his escape, Gu You crushed a spatial scroll that caused more than thirty Dou Zun combatants from the Lion Nether Sect's force to self-destruct, creating a dense mist that blocked pursuit. 51 During the subsequent Soul Hall inquiry, he protected himself by shifting responsibility for the failed mission onto Saint Hun Qing. Hun Xi judged Gu You's handling proper, and Hun Miesheng assigned him to gather intelligence on Yao Ling, Mang Tianchi, Feng Lin, and Xiao Yan. 54

Gu You later competed against Yao Ling for the Fragmented Map of the Netherworld Demonic Fire, unsuccessfully attempting to organize other ancient-clan representatives into taking it from her. 61 When the conflict escalated, he fought alongside the Heavenly Nether Sect Master; after their defeat, Gu You killed his ally and self-destructed to escape. 63

His body was subsequently reconstructed by the Hun Clan, but the process severely affected his cultivation progress and intensified his resentment toward Yao Ling. He later concealed his identity and suppressed his aura to that of a peak Eight-turn Dou Zun when he encountered her at the Ancient Domain Platform. 71

At the Bodhi Ancient Tree, Gu You cooperated uneasily with Hun Yu against Xiao Yan and Yao Ling. With his realm suppressed to peak Nine-Revolutions Dou Zun, he used the Void Devouring Flame and eventually sacrificed his body through the forbidden Senluo Youhuo Lock to overpower Yao Ling. Though he bound and critically wounded her, Yao Ling retaliated with her clan mark, severely injuring him. 78 79

Xiao Yan nearly killed Gu You with a Six-Colored Fire Lotus, but the Bodhi Ancient Tree teleported Gu You and Hun Yu away before the attack could finish him. Gu You received a Bodhi Seed after escaping. 80 After Yao Ling broke through to Dou Sheng, she immobilized and bound him without difficulty. 82
