Background / History

Harry was orphaned when his parents were killed by Voldemort and subsequently raised by the Dursleys. His mother Lily's love left him with protection against Voldemort's curse, enabling Harry to harm Voldemort; Wayne later explains this to him directly 108.

Wayne's intervention at Privet Drive changes Harry's home life. In exchange for business opportunities, Vernon Dursley agrees to treat Harry better; the Dursleys subsequently provide him with pocket money and give him a share of what Dudley receives 113 264.

He is sensitive about his identity and reputation. Discovering that he can speak Parseltongue distresses him because he associates the ability with Slytherin and Voldemort, though Ron initially considers it impressive 221.

Despite his temper and occasional recklessness, Harry holds firm moral beliefs. When Grindelwald describes a boy treating family members as obstacles, Harry rejects the idea outright: family are not burdens for others to discard 461.
