Background / History

Firefly entered Penacony as an illegal immigrant while concealing her identity and posing as a temporary worker. She already knew Caelus before introducing herself, but initially withheld the source of that knowledge. She acted as his guide through Golden Hour, introducing dream merchandise, Clock Boy, and Penacony’s landmarks. 16

She suffers from Entropy Syndrome, an irreversible chronic dissociation of her physical structure that gradually causes her to disappear. The dreamscape is especially precious to her because it lets her move, feel, and experience life outside a medical pod. 20

Firefly seeks the Clock Keeper’s legacy and longs for the freedom associated with the Nameless. Although she feared that this objective could put her at odds with Caelus, she accepted his promise to seek help for her illness and entrusted her life to him. 18 20

Her true identity is Sam, the silver armored Stellaron Hunter. Firefly is acquainted with Kafka, Silver Wolf, and Blade; Kafka introduced her to Caelus as a prospective match. 38

Personality

Firefly is knowledgeable, observant, and protective. While guiding Caelus, she explains dangers that ordinary visitors may not know about, detects when someone is following him, and prepares to intervene if he is threatened. 17

She initially presents herself as shy and restrained, but becomes more playful and candid as she grows closer to Caelus. Her affection also makes her openly jealous of his interactions with Robin and wary of anyone impersonating her. 19 26 39

Despite her illness and desire to remain in dreams, Firefly rejects Sunday’s attempt to impose an eternal paradise. She believes people must retain the right to choose their own path rather than be forcibly sheltered from reality. 45

After the Masked Fool sends Caelus into a deeper dream, Firefly accompanies him through distorted corridors and golden dream-bubble puzzles. When a monster attacks, she conceals her own capability while Caelus attempts to protect her. 26

Firefly Is Sam

When Caelus is impaled while saving Firefly from a Memory Zone Meme, she transforms into Sam in fury and threatens to make Penacony pay. She later reveals her identity directly to Caelus, apologizing for hiding it from him. 29 38
