Chapter 35 13. Cyberpsychosis
The thought that the staggering figure approaching the NCPD officers might be suffering from Cyberpsychosis flashed through Karl's mind just as the person raised his head.
It was a middle-aged man with scars crisscrossing his face, appearing to be in his forties. His cybernetic eyes rolled back, revealing the broken mechanical structures around the edges of their sockets, flashing an eerie yellow light, like a yellow traffic light warning of something.
An NCPD officer noticed the strange individual approaching. He raised his Lexington, intending to warn the odd fellow to stay away from the crime scene, but found that the middle-aged man had suddenly vanished.
Karl's pupils constricted. He seemed to see time slow down, and then the middle-aged man's body, in almost frozen time, left a series of afterimages as he charged towards the NCPD officer who had tried to stop him. Karl wanted to react, but found his own body moving extremely slowly.
He could see it, but his body couldn't keep up.
This is, Sandevistan!
Not everyone could see a Sandevistan user like Karl, even without having one himself. The NCPD officer only saw a blur in front of him, and then the strange middle-aged man disappeared. The pain in his chest arrived first.
He instinctively looked down and saw a sharp blade, like a mantis claw, piercing his chest. Breaking through the restraints of ribs and flesh, it reached the organs outside his body. The NCPD officer saw some red fragments still twitching slightly.
Was that… his heart?
As that thought emerged, the blade was withdrawn, and the NCPD officer lost consciousness, falling heavily to the ground.
Mantis Blades!
Karl, the only one who had seen the whole process clearly, recognized the weapon that had pierced the NCPD officer's heart.
[Mantis Blades]: Arm blades located on the arms, extremely concealed and lethal, the choice of lone wolves and bodyguards.
Using Sandevistan to get behind him, and then using the Mantis Blades that popped out of his arms to pierce the heart for a fatal blow, this guy was quite skilled.
Recalling the scenes reported on TV yesterday, thinking of the shredded bodies, Karl was eighty percent sure that this guy was the Cyberpsycho who had disappeared from Kabuki.
"Watch out!"
While Karl was analyzing the situation, the NCPD officers who had reacted raised their guns and aimed at the yellow-eyed middle-aged man who was standing there after piercing the NCPD officer.
Without a word, the Lexingtons roared as they were aimed, but the yellow-eyed middle-aged man's body was clearly equipped with Subdermal Armor. The dense rain of bullets hitting his body only made him tremble slightly.
At that moment, the NCPD's identity confirmation sounded with a mechanical voice.
"Criminal identity confirmed, Patrick Bell, case of Cyberpsychosis."
"Damn, it's that psycho from yesterday!"
Amidst the NCPD's terrified voices, Patrick, the man whose name was called out by the mechanical voice, flashed his eyes, seeming to gain a bit of life, and then his whole body began to shake strangely, as if a machine was breaking down.
Sandevistan activated again, and the figure that only Karl could see once again formed a line, with the end of the line being the end of the stitching needle.
Another NCPD officer died.
"Cyberpsycho!"
Amidst the terrified shouts of the onlookers, people began to flee.
The official spokesperson who had just been broadcasting the NCPD's brave deeds had now abandoned all pretense of dignity, scrambling on all fours towards the broadcasting vehicle, trying to hide inside. The stall owner who had been making food had flipped over the counter, desperately running towards the mega-skyscrapers with a group of customers who dared not continue eating. Amidst the crowd fleeing in panic because of the Cyberpsycho, Karl put down the sushi in his hand.
This sushi wasn't just Oliver and Jack's breakfast, it also had the inari sushi that Karl could eat. He couldn't let it get scattered.
As the crowd fled, Karl swung his arms and went against the flow, walking towards the NCPD who were fighting desperately with the Cyberpsycho.
Normal people would definitely run when facing a Cyberpsycho, but Karl wasn't normal.
He had wanted to try facing an opponent with Sandevistan for a long time.
If Karl had any desire in participating, it might be to test his abilities while seeing how much money he could make.
He wondered how much the bounty on this Cyberpsycho would be. Could it be ten thousand eddies?
Making money while eating breakfast, not bad.
Even a Cyberpsycho had to endure the burden that Sandevistan placed on the body when using it. So, after using Sandevistan twice, the Cyberpsycho, instinctively aware of the threat, began to approach the NCPD officers in a running manner to carry out the slaughter. The officers holding Lexingtons could only desperately call for the MaxTac team while watching the Cyberpsycho approach them step by step, withstanding their bullets.
When I get back, I have to save money to buy a gun!
That was the thought that appeared in the minds of every NCPD officer who fired but found their bullets deflected. Then they saw Karl rushing towards them at high speed.
Not again!
Just when they thought it was another possible Cyberpsycho, they found that Karl was charging towards Patrick.
"Leave this guy to me, don't accidentally hit me, I don't have any Subdermal Armor."
Hearing this rather clear-headed remark, the NCPD officers didn't feel a trace of comfort, because the officers all saw that this young man who had suddenly rushed in, while everyone else was retreating, wishing their parents had given them two more legs, had taken the initiative to meet the Cyberpsycho.
Everyone who saw this scene thought that this kid would be torn to pieces in the next moment.
"Be careful!"
An NCPD officer who wasn't young ran out from behind cover. Although he didn't know why this kid was planning to die, it was definitely not something he could sit idly by and watch.
He usually took bribes, and quite a lot of them. He also often forced merchants to pay protection fees, and often brought people to beat up street vendors who didn't pay. But he was still a police officer, and couldn't watch a child go to his death!
"No need to worry."
Karl didn't have any intention of explaining to the NCPD. As long as their useless Lexingtons didn't hit him.
In his hand, he had already drawn the Monomolecular Wire.
