Chapter 74: Surgery 52

Better than expected, but not by much.

Better than expected meant Sasha was still breathing. Not by much meant she was about to stop.

Carl saw no external injuries on Sasha. Not a single one.

For someone who had fallen from a great height, that was clearly incredible. Yet for some reason, as he looked at the unconscious Sasha, a famous photograph suddenly flashed through Carl's mind.

The most beautiful suicide.

In 1947, a woman named Evelyn jumped from the eighty-sixth floor of the New York Empire State Building, from a height of 320 meters, due to depression. When she landed on a car in the street, there was not a mark on her body. Her eyes were closed, her face peaceful, her feet slightly crossed, one hand still clutching the necklace at her chest. She looked as though she were merely asleep.

A photography student named Robert Wiles happened to pass by and witnessed the scene. Deeply shaken by her peaceful appearance, he instinctively raised his camera and captured the moment. The photograph was later published by Time magazine and became known under the title "The Most Beautiful Fallen Angel."

But when Carl thought of that photograph, he did not find the similar scene before him tragically beautiful. What he felt was regret.
