"KK is here."
When Carl and her group appeared outside the Municipal Criminal Justice Complex, the surveillance system locked onto them almost the instant they were exposed. Data flooded the Psycho Squad's tactical terminals, informing every member of the Psycho Squad.
Some of the people around KK had their faces blurred and distorted by Kiroshi Optics interference, but that did not matter—as long as the system could clearly identify that man's face, it was enough.
The Psycho Squad was an organization that believed in strength above all else. While some members held higher positions due to their long years of service, anyone who had risen swiftly to the rank of captain had done so by beating every dissenter into silence.
After all, the Psycho Squad had been created to fight violence with violence. This iron law, written in blood, applied just as freely within the organization itself.
So who stood at the pinnacle of personal combat power in Night City today?
Perhaps it was the fully cybernetic Adam Smasher. Perhaps it was Morgan Blackhand, whose name was known but whose whereabouts remained unseen, rumored to still be active. Or perhaps it was the legendary assassin Aguilar, said to have already infiltrated the city.
Everyone had their own answer, their own guesses. No matter how that list changed, one name always remained on it—
KK.
Quite a few Psycho Squad members had seen him before. Some had even faced that monster directly. No one questioned his strength, and no one dared not fear his existence.
Madmen were not the same as idiots.
Even if some members were so far gone that their brain circuits had shorted out, they still understood reverence in the face of an absolute gap in strength—otherwise, how could the strong rise so quickly in this survival-of-the-fittest system?
