Background / History
V was formerly part of the Barker Family, a Nomad group. He opposed its decision to join the Snake Nation, argued with its leader, and was expelled; he subsequently planned to relocate to Night City. 239
Karl first met V in the Badlands while hiring him and his companions to track Wraiths who had robbed Militech. Karl was struck by V's resemblance to the avatar from his former life, while Oliver and Jack found V unusually familiar and reassuring. 150
After coming to Night City, V joined Karl, Jack, and Oliver as a mercenary. Karl considered giving him the high-load Apogee Sandevistan even before his compatibility had been tested, trusting V's ability to handle it. 241 268
Personality
V is initially presented as honest, sincere, and somewhat naïve for mercenary work. His willingness to defy the Barker Family's leadership reflects strong personal principles, even at the cost of losing his place in the group. 150 239
He is enthusiastic about vehicles, combat improvement, and cyberware, but can be reckless with augmentation: he installed a Kerenzikov, smart-control system, and Sandevistan simultaneously without first testing their effects. 266 269
Despite his increasingly fearsome street reputation, V remains loyal to Karl. When Karl decides to undertake a dangerous cyberspace-related task, V does not try to dissuade him; he instead asks how he can help share the risk. 591 953
Abilities & Skills
Cyberware Adaptability
V possesses extraordinary physiological compatibility with cyberware. Viktor identifies him as one of only two people in Night City he has seen with such adaptability, the other being Karl. 268
- His implants function as naturally as his original body, with exceptionally low rejection risk. 268
- He installed several advanced implants at once and reported feeling better rather than suffering adverse effects. 269
- His exceptional compatibility does not remove the danger of losing sight of his humanity through excessive modification. 268
Enhanced Combat
After receiving the Apogee Sandevistan and other implants, V reaches a combat level comparable to Jack and Oliver. 273
- Uses a Sandevistan and Kerenzikov to achieve extreme speed and reaction time. 269 794
- Is capable of rapid, precise close-quarters kills with his katana, cutting through military-grade blade-resistant armor. 821
- His relentless training, including sleeping with a Training Chip installed, accelerates his adaptation to both combat experience and cyberware. 346
- His reputation among Night City's lower-level gangs becomes so severe that many retreat immediately upon recognizing him. 591
