116. Barghest's Considerations
As Dogtown was in the midst of a full-scale purge of the Scavengers and, with the Night City Police Department's help, restoring order, the Barghest troops who had withdrawn in advance also learned what had happened in Dogtown.
The Barghest led by Chester Bennett and Gago had not waited for their beloved Colonel Hansen to return. All they knew was that Colonel Hansen was dead, and that KK had become Dogtown's new ruler.
"KK... it was KK!"
Gago could hardly believe what he had learned about Dogtown's current situation. He had never expected KK to be the one who emerged during the battle between Barghest and New America, much less the final victor.
It was like a giant squid and a sperm whale fighting in the sea. Before they could determine a winner, a deep-sea fishing net dropped from above hauled away the giant squid, leaving behind a stunned sperm whale that, after lingering for a while, swam off as well.
And they were like the tentacles the sperm whale had bitten off the giant squid during that struggle. Now, they not only had to worry about the fishing net, but also whether the sperm whale would come after them to fill its stomach.
The most absurd part was that deep-sea fishing usually operated at around two hundred meters below the surface, while giant squid lived anywhere from three hundred to three thousand meters down. For either side, this was absolutely beyond all expectation.
Yet it had happened anyway.
