He had once been a Squib, yet he yearned so desperately for magic that Anton had discovered him secretly learning how to cast Scourgify before he ever gained the ability to perform magic.
He knew every detail of the standard casting gestures and spell pronunciation, to the point where they could have been used as a textbook example. The only thing Mr. Filch couldn't do was actually cast the spells.
For years, Young Wizards had secretly spread rumors about the ambiguous relationship between Mr. Filch, the caretaker, and Madam Pince, the School Library's guardian. After all, these two were among the characters Young Wizards disliked most.
