"I was assigned by the Dark Lord to train mercenaries on this island, teaching them a few kinds of black magic that are easy to learn but pack a punch." Snape stared at Lupin on the bed.
"Obviously, you're here to investigate too. Tell me what you've learned."
Lupin slowly opened his eyes and looked at Snape with a complicated expression. He pressed his lips together.
"We both serve Dumbledore. I think you should know that." Snape's voice was cool, tinged with annoyance and weariness.
Lupin slowly sat up, grimacing as the sting of the medicine took hold.
"Squib mercenaries and the website for mysterious powers have always been believed to be under Grindelwald's control."
"Anything they do affects how every faction judges the situation. Out on the fringes, I heard people deliberately stirring up talk about Grindelwald and Dumbledore's past again..."
"Someone is obviously trying to tie the Squib mercenaries, Grindelwald, and Dumbledore together."
Lupin frowned in thought. "I suspect the Dark Lord has his eye on the American Ministry of Magic. If he really intends to bring all the wizards in the Americas under his control, that would be extremely dangerous."
Snape sneered. "Yes, it's a good strategy. Those arrogant European wizards always look down on this place. They think it's a wasteland for the failures of the past and wizards from the fringes."
Lupin sighed.
"The Dark Lord has clearly seized on that. He's operating in the American Ministry of Magic under the names of Grindelwald and Dumbledore. The European wizards will not only stand by and watch, they'll be too wary to interfere."
He looked up at Snape. "The wizarding communities here and in Europe are completely different. We live in harmony with Muggles, while the Magical Congress here is even at odds with the Muggle
