Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Low-cultivation Soul Beast | 209 435 | Most possess limited intelligence and act largely on instinct; even many ten-thousand-year beasts lack human-level wisdom. |
| Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast | 264 435 | Generally gains intelligence comparable to an ordinary human. May choose human transformation or remain in beast form and face further Heavenly Tribulations. |
| Fierce Beast | 264 | A soul beast reaching roughly two hundred thousand years may become a Fierce Beast; it can also take human form. |
| Million-Year Soul Beast | 169 | Must survive ten Heavenly Tribulations to reach this point. Million-year beasts are god-level in strength, but are not true gods under the God Realm’s restrictions. |
| Divine Beast | 206 209 | A Soul Pact with a human who reaches godhood can allow the contracted soul beast to become a divine beast as well; Di Tian is the first documented success. |
| Unrestricted cultivation | 307 | After Ye Cheng reorganizes Douluo Star’s rules, soul beasts no longer face Heavenly Tribulations, cultivation caps, or the million-year bottleneck. |
Nature and Cultivation
Soul beasts gain strength through their bloodlines and by absorbing external energy. Their “years” describe cultivation rather than literal age; exceptional bloodlines and high-energy treasures can greatly accelerate their growth. 173 439
A soul beast’s bloodline determines its cultivation speed, Soul Power quality, attributes, and innate abilities. This specialization can be powerful, but it also restricts most soul beasts to the attributes they are born with. 439 440
- Intelligence — Most soul beasts do not gain human-level intelligence until reaching one hundred thousand years of cultivation. High-bloodline beings, such as auspicious beasts, can be exceptions. 435 438
- Instinctive herb use — Soul beasts can instinctively tell which Immortal Herbs benefit or harm them. They can absorb roughly eighty to one hundred percent of an herb’s medicinal power when consuming it directly, far more efficiently than humans. 422
- Human transformation — A hundred-thousand-year soul beast may abandon its beast form and cultivate as a human, but this path is considered severely limiting. Transformed soul beasts cannot use Shattered Ring Reconstruction without damaging their own origin, and cannot become gods without a divine inheritance. 264
- Lifespan — Soul beasts normally possess far longer lifespans than humans, but repeated Heavenly Tribulations historically killed most high-level beasts before they could reach the million-year threshold. 206 414
God Realm Suppression
Following the Dragon God’s rebellion, the God Realm classified all nonhuman beings as beasts and imposed restrictions intended to prevent them from becoming gods. 205
These restrictions included:
- Soul beasts producing soul rings upon death and occasionally producing soul bones, creating a system in which human Soul Masters benefited from hunting them. 307 414
- Heavenly Tribulations striking soul beasts as they advanced. 169 202
- A hard barrier preventing soul beasts from becoming true divine beasts or condensing godhood, even at one million years of cultivation. 169 203
- Human transformation as a flawed alternative: transformed beasts still require soul rings and remain unable to become gods without inheriting a divine position. 202 264
Before these rules were removed, the conflict between Soul Masters and soul beasts was fundamentally irreconcilable because Soul Masters needed rings from slain beasts to advance. 192
Soul Pact Masters
Equal Soul Beast Contract
The Soul Pact Master system creates a symbiotic contract between a human Soul Master and a soul beast. The two partners share prosperity and loss, and the contract continuously balances their strength. 205
- If one partner is stronger when the contract is formed, part of that partner’s power is transferred to the weaker side. 205 206
- Growth by either partner benefits the other; when the human becomes a god, the contracted soul beast can become a divine beast. 205 209
- A contracted soul beast is treated by the world’s rules as though it were an absorbed soul ring, allowing it to avoid Heavenly Tribulations. 206
- If either partner dies, the survivor suffers severe vitality loss that may damage their cultivation foundation. 205 264
- Contracting with an unsuitable, much weaker partner can permanently restrict a powerful soul beast to that partner’s level. 206
The contract also raises a soul beast’s intelligence. Even a ten-year soul beast can gain considerable wisdom after forming a pact with a human, allowing low-level beasts to become viable partners. 209
Contracted Abilities
Soul beasts contracted to Soul Pact Masters can shrink or enlarge their bodies, making it possible for even large beasts to live in human society. 357
Highly compatible partners can achieve spiritual resonance resembling a Martial Soul Fusion Skill. In full fusion, a Soul Pact Master can use every ability of their contracted soul beast and inherit its physical qualities. 359 363
Master-Servant Contract
Ye Cheng later develops a separate Master-Servant Soul Beast Contract. Unlike the equal pact, it establishes a one-sided relationship in which the human master may control whether cultivation is shared. 264
This version removes the equal contract’s balancing effect and can prevent a stronger human from losing power when contracting a weaker soul beast. 264
Relations with Humanity
Old Soul Master System
Under the old system, soul beasts were hunted for Soul Rings and Soul Bones. Even cooperation against demons remained fragile, as some Soul Masters killed injured allied soul beasts after battles to claim their rings. 192
Hundred-thousand-year soul beasts were especially targeted because they were guaranteed to produce soul bones. 4 192
Ring Condensation Method
The Ring Condensation Method lets Soul Masters condense their own rings instead of killing soul beasts. This removes humanity’s absolute dependence on soul beast rings, though soul bones initially remain a source of conflict. 191 192
Once the method becomes widespread, humans and soul beasts begin coexisting more peacefully, and the old soul-hunter system is eventually eliminated. 192 307
Integration into Society
After the Soul Pact system spreads, contracted soul beasts become common throughout human society. They accompany humans in daily life and participate alongside their partners in Soul Pact competitions. 209 353
Following Ye Cheng’s reorganization of Douluo Star’s rules, soul beasts no longer produce rings or bones after death and no longer need contracts merely to survive Heavenly Tribulations. Equal contracts nevertheless remain common because they offer companionship, intelligence enhancement, and access to human society. 307
Alternative Path: Demonic Cultivation
Demonic Cultivation is presented as a third path for soul beasts beyond receiving a divine position or becoming a Soul Pact Master. It seeks to transform soul beasts into demon beasts with human-like intelligence and greater long-term potential. 435 437
- Enlightenment Technique — Grants an ignorant beast intelligence comparable to a human, though this acquired intelligence cannot be inherited by its descendants. 438
- Bloodline transformation — Combining enlightenment with Demonic Cultivation gradually alters a soul beast’s bloodline, allowing the change to be inherited by future generations. 438 439
- Demon beast traits — Demon beasts can freely shift between beast and human forms, possess longer lifespans than humans, and may develop multiple attributes and demon arts rather than remaining bound to one bloodline attribute. 440 442
Notable Representatives
- Silver Dragon King — Soul Beast Co-Lord and one of the Dragon God’s surviving halves; serves as the race’s foremost leader and protector. 202 223
- Di Tian — Beast God and leader among the Fierce Beasts; reaches 999,999 years before becoming a divine beast through a Soul Pact. 207 209
- Bi Ji — A Fierce Beast who advises Di Tian and accompanies the Silver Dragon King into the human world. 202 226
- Three-Eyed Golden Lion — An Emperor Auspicious Beast with the Power of Destiny, used to locate fragments of the Flying Rainbow Sword. 409 410
- A Lan — Ye Cheng’s contracted one-hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Grass. 281
- Qiu’er — An Emperor Auspicious Beast who contracts with Keli and uses Keli’s power to reach God King level. 316
Trivia
- A soul beast only needs intelligence equal to an ordinary person to speak; it does not need to assume human form. 2
- “Hundred-thousand-year” and similar labels measure cultivation, not necessarily the creature’s literal lifespan. 173
- The Silver Dragon King is recognized as Soul Beast Co-Lord because many soul beast races descend from the essence of divine beasts that fell on Douluo Continent. 223
- Fierce Beasts generally possess intelligence no different from humans and are capable of strategic thought, long-term planning, and political judgment. 409
