Hell Viewing Technique

As one group of examinations after another came to an end, it was soon Chiga's turn.

"Uchiha Chiga VS Yuhi Kurenai!"

Hearing his name, Chiga walked to the center of the field, then glanced at Sarutobi Asuma outside the arena.

Under Sarutobi Asuma's nervous gaze, Chiga smiled helplessly and gave him a look that said, Don't worry.

Don't worry. I'll definitely teach Kurenai and you a lesson!

Sarutobi Asuma thought Chiga would do as they had agreed, and immediately revealed a satisfied smile.

At Sarutobi Asuma's side, Rin Nohara squeezed her way over, then shouted toward Uchiha Obito, who was still sulking behind them, "Obito, come quickly! Chiga's up!"

"Hmph, and his opponent is Kurenai? There's nothing interesting about a match this boring."

Uchiha Obito stepped forward. When he saw that Chiga's opponent was Yuhi Kurenai, he immediately felt unbalanced.

They were both geniuses of the Uchiha clan, so why was Chiga's opponent someone whose taijutsu and ninjutsu were both merely average?

Meanwhile, his opponent had been someone from the Hyuga clan. That palm strike had nearly knocked his front teeth out.

Just thinking about it made Obito's teeth ache.

He instinctively turned his gaze toward Hyuga Toji, only to find Hyuga Toji looking at him too. Nothing could be seen in those pale, cataract-like eyes, but his face seemed to carry a hint of shyness.

You already won your match. What the hell are you being shy about?!

"What are you saying, you jerk?"

Sarutobi Asuma couldn't stand anyone looking down on Kurenai, especially since she was the class's dead last.

Uchiha Obito looked at Sarutobi Asuma in front of him. He no longer had time to investigate Hyuga Toji's problem and said disdainfully to Sarutobi Asuma:

"Asuma, although I'm annoyed with Chiga, you know Kurenai's strength. She's only in the middle of the class, and that's counting her excellent theoretical grades. How could someone like Kurenai possibly beat Chiga?"

Asuma did not refute Obito's analysis. Instead, he revealed a triumphant smile, as if his scheme had succeeded, and said frankly, "Kurenai's taijutsu and ninjutsu are indeed nothing special, but what she excels at is genjutsu!"

"What? Kurenai knows genjutsu?!"

Now it was Obito's turn to be surprised. Genjutsu was something students still in the Academy rarely encountered, and it always felt like some kind of advanced technique.

Seeing Obito's expression, Sarutobi Asuma said smugly, "After you two Uchiha fail today's examination, let's see what face your Uchiha clan will have left to call itself Konoha's foremost clan!"

Chiga and Kurenai had already formed the opposing hand seal. As Ryōichi-sensei's raised arm fell, the match officially began.

Chiga seemed to have followed Sarutobi Asuma's suggestion. He did not charge at Yuhi Kurenai immediately, but merely drew his Samurai Sword and stood where he was.

Everything was proceeding according to plan.

Yuhi Kurenai attacked first. She took three Shuriken from her Ninja Tool Pouch and quickly threw them toward Chiga.

Students of this age all tended to begin their attacks in much the same way.

Facing the Shuriken flying toward him at high speed, Chiga did not move his feet. Waiting for the right moment, he jabbed three times in midair.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

The Samurai Sword's blade precisely pierced the centers of the Shuriken. The three Shuriken spun on the tip of the blade for a moment before coming to a stop.

Seeing how easily Chiga had neutralized her Shuriken, Yuhi Kurenai's expression grew extremely solemn, and she sighed inwardly in relief that she had not allowed Chiga to attack first.

With swordsmanship like Chiga's, she would have no chance at all in close combat.

Although she was thinking this, her hands did not stop. She quickly formed hand seals.

"It's time to end this!"

Seeing that he had already given Kurenai a chance to put on a show, Chiga slid forward in a long stride and reached Kurenai in an instant.

The Samurai Sword he raised high gleamed coldly as it let out a sharp whistle, as though it would cleave Kurenai in half with a single strike.

"It really is time to end this!"

At this critical moment, Yuhi Kurenai did not dodge. Instead, she revealed a sly smile and called out softly, "Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing Technique!"

The Samurai Sword stopped in front of Kurenai. Chiga stood where he was, his face gradually revealing an expression of utter terror.

"Hahaha, Kurenai's genjutsu worked!"

Seeing that Chiga had fallen under the genjutsu, Asuma was even happier than Kurenai. He taunted Obito, "The Uchiha clan is nothing special after all! You can't even evade a C-Rank Genjutsu!"

"Chiga, you bastard! Wake up!"

Uchiha Obito shouted loudly.

"Obito, don't interfere with the fairness of the examination!"

Seeing this, Rin Nohara hurriedly tugged at Uchiha Obito. Before the examination, Ryōichi-sensei had already told them that the spectators were not allowed to disturb those participating in the match.

"Give up. Someone caught in genjutsu can't hear your shouting. Besides, Chiga had no idea that Kurenai knew genjutsu. He's completely immersed in fear right now. I wonder what Chiga is afraid of."

Standing beside Obito, Sarutobi Asuma patted him on the shoulder as he gloated.

Uchiha Obito gritted his teeth. He was not worried about Chiga. Rather, as Asuma had said, if Chiga lost, their Uchiha clan would have suffered a complete defeat, and they would have disgraced the clan.

On the field, Kurenai let out a sigh of relief. Fortunately, she had been quick enough.

She took a Kunai from her Ninja Tool Pouch.

Hell Viewing Technique merely made its victim face the thing they feared most. Someone with a strong enough mind would quickly awaken from it.

Therefore, Kurenai still had to follow up with a fatal blow to end the examination.

Kurenai held the Kunai and slowly stabbed it toward Chiga's throat, signaling the end of the examination.

It's over!

Even Ryōichi-sensei was about to announce the end of the match when he saw a hint of clarity in Chiga's terrified eyes, and immediately stopped.

The Kunai gleamed coldly. At such close range, Chiga reached out and seized Kurenai's wrist.

"Nani?!"

Kurenai stared directly at Chiga, her face still carrying an expression of disbelief.

Although Hell Viewing Technique was only a low-level genjutsu and was not difficult to dispel, genjutsu not cast through the Sharingan could be broken simply by disrupting the flow of Chakra within the body. Some people could even dispel genjutsu through pain after realizing they had fallen under its effects.

Genjutsu cast through the Sharingan, however, required assistance from another person to dispel.

That was also why the Sharingan had become so famous.

"Surprised? I knew from the start that you could use genjutsu."

The corners of Chiga's lips lifted slightly as he smiled.

"Returning a favor is only proper. You should try my genjutsu too!"

As Chiga spoke, he opened his One-Tomoe Sharingan. A pair of scarlet eyes appeared in Yuhi Kurenai's astonished gaze.

In an instant, confusion appeared in Yuhi Kurenai's eyes.
