Background / History

Early martial-arts career

Pan Zhengyang graduated from a Top Martial Arts University and followed the Break Through Realm route alongside Xu Yanwu. The two attended a top university in the capital and remained close friends for more than thirty years. Pan once opened his Dragon Gate from the First directly to the Second Dragon Gate, an accomplishment attributed to his exceptional talent, perception, and appetite 15 21 31 143.

Ningjiang Pest Control Bureau

As Ningjiang's Bureau Chief, Pan operated against the entrenched Ren Family with limited personnel and evidence. His own Three-Realm cultivation and Sun Shun's covert assistance allowed him to begin reversing the bureau's long-standing subordination to the family 91.

Pan noticed Li Ye after the latter identified a demon threat. He rewarded Li Ye with 10,000 yuan and the Five Flavors Chopsticks, then made clear that martial-arts attainment was necessary to join demon-fighting work 11. After Li Ye reached the Dragon Gate Realm, Pan introduced him to Xu Yanwu, arranged his meals and cultivation resources, and supported his study of the Twelve Golden Palaces Dragon Tiger Gate 15 20 30.

When Li Ye was attacked over the Five Flavors Chopsticks, Pan treated the incident as a possible Ren Family operation and ordered action against the family’s assets 25. After Li Ye entered the Second Realm, Pan appointed him captain of Ningjiang's nearly empty Pest Control squadron and entrusted him with sealing the Ren Family 68.

Pan personally confronted Ren Changtian during the final operation. He fought through Ren’s demon transformation, severed his arm, and killed him, though Ren’s essence escaped 88. With the Ren Family destroyed, Pan was promoted and transferred to Yangcheng, while Li Ye succeeded him in Ningjiang 91 92.

Yangcheng Bureau Chief

In Yangcheng, Pan continued as Bureau Chief and recruited Li Ye as the bureau's sole Deputy Director. He relied on Li Ye and Information Section Chief Lu Zhao to investigate the Locust God Cult, the Six Ghost Gate, and the sect- and company-backed martial-artist forces beyond Pan’s own ability to confront directly 184.

He remains an adviser and ally to Li Ye, warning him of political attention while supporting his expansion of Pest Control authority against sects and harmful local powers 189 211.

Despite his rough manner, he is deeply loyal to people he recognizes as his own. He supported Xu Yanwu’s wish to preserve his family martial art, invested heavily in Li Ye’s cultivation, and handed his Ningjiang authority and residence to Li Ye when he was transferred 20 31 92.

He is also realistic about his limits. In Yangcheng, he acknowledges that sects, noble backgrounds, and political considerations restrict his ability to act freely, leading him to entrust difficult tasks to Li Ye 184.
