Chapter 31: Sudden Assault, the Assassin John Wick
Lockheed was an aerospace company, ranking among the more prominent aircraft manufacturers in Eagle Country.
As for Aston Martin, its reputation was far-reaching; nearly everyone had heard the name. It was a luxury car manufacturer.
"Looks like I got the better end of this deal." Merlin glanced around and found the equipment still quite new, barely used.
He nodded in satisfaction, then transferred the payment.
He had bought the Aircraft Factory, of course, to develop helicopters and Fighter Jets. Unlike vehicles or weapons, aircraft required not only vast spaces during development but also different equipment.
If it were just the engine, that would be manageable.
"It really is a steal. But what surprises me is that you actually went through with leasing this factory." Happy looked at the payment confirmation on his phone, somewhat taken aback.
He remembered Merlin was still a High School Student. He knew the kid had recently developed an Electromagnetic Pulse Emitter and earned ten million dollars—after all, it was a collaboration with his boss's company.
What shocked him was that Merlin had the guts to lease an entire aircraft factory on his own.
Happy recalled that at this age, he was still drooling over the cheerleading squad's goddess every day.
"I want to do some research in this area."
"Need any help? I can find some people for you."
"No, not for now."
After signing the paperwork, Happy left the Aircraft Factory. Though Stark had been urged by Colonel Rhode to head to Afghanistan, Pepper back at the company still needed his protection.
Merlin stayed behind to start up the equipment, plan a new production line, and install Smart Robotic Arms.
Merlin stayed in the workshop until nightfall, catching a short nap in between to recharge.
Remembering he still had to go to Osborn Tower to research the Serum with Gwen, he had no choice but to close the factory gates and speed away on his motorcycle.
He wasn't one to stand people up.
Due to the diverse population in the Brooklyn District, gang conflicts barely ceased at night. So Merlin rode fast through the streets without stopping, nothing but a red blur flashing by.
But just as he passed a secluded suburban area, a Ford Mustang suddenly roared from the opposite side of the street, accelerating straight toward him.
Inside the car, a pale, arrogant young man in a black vest, a cigarette dangling from his mouth, stared at him with wild excitement, the accelerator floored. The black Ford Mustang charged like a rampaging beast, its roar echoing as it bore down on Merlin.
In the passenger seat, a few thuggish-looking youths sneered at Merlin on his bike, as if they could already see him being sent flying.
"Beep, beep, beep..." The Fire Control Radar's alarm blared instantly.
"Didn't expect the first one to come so soon." Facing the roaring muscle car head-on, Merlin chuckled and pressed the button without hesitation.
"Fwoosh!" Beneath the dim Streetlight, a Missile screamed out, its tail fins blazing.
"Boom!" The next second, a bright fireball erupted into the sky over the dark, silent street.
In the instant of the explosion, Merlin could even see the terrified expressions on the faces of the men inside, illuminated by the flames.
Seriously, who the hell carries a Missile around with them?
Merlin stopped his motorcycle, the blazing fire casting a red glow over him.
He was used to this by now. In this free country, it was basically "slow hands get nothing"—no room for any wishful thinking.
After appreciating the art of the explosion, he restarted his bike and left the scene.
But before he got far, as if sensing something, he pulled over by a small path.
Following the path with his eyes, he saw a villa at the end. The distinctive tire tracks of a Ford Mustang stretched out from the lawn.
As if a thought struck him, he quickly pulled out his phone and checked.
"Tch... what a coincidence." After confirming the identity of the villa's owner, he clicked his tongue, turned his bike around, and rode over.
Following the quiet path to the villa, he found the front door had been violently broken in, and the interior was a mess.
Cold moonlight streamed through the windows and door into the hall, where a man and a dog lay motionless on the floor, blood pooling across the smooth tiles.
Merlin walked over and looked down at the man sprawled on the ground, his forehead covered in blood.
He had long black hair, a sexy stubble, and a face with closed eyes that carried a melancholy and a hint of coldness.
The assassin, John Wick. A ruthless man who had killed three people with just a pencil.
"Oh, poor little doggy." Merlin crouched down, looking at the Beagle breathing weakly, and reached out to pick it up.
Thinking they happened to need an Experimental Subject, he decided to take the Beagle with him.
Glancing at the still-unconscious John, he left an app on the man's phone, then carried the Beagle away from the scene.
Osborn Industries, Interspecies Gene Laboratory.
"Oh my god, Merlin, why did you bring a dog in here?" Gwen exclaimed, pointing at the Beagle in Merlin's arms.
"I found it on the road. Since we don't have an experimental subject, let's use this dog." Merlin placed the Beagle on the test table. Having run all the way here, it was barely clinging to life.
"Using a dog for experiments..." Gwen felt a pang of reluctance.
"Come on, it's dying. If we can save it, helping out with the experiment isn't a big deal." Merlin urged quickly. If they didn't make the Regeneration Potion soon, this creature would really be beyond saving.
"It's dying?" Only then did Gwen seem to notice the Beagle's condition. She had originally thought Merlin had just caught it somewhere.
Snapping back to reality, she immediately turned on the equipment and, following the experimental data left by Professor Connors, began brewing the Regeneration Potion.
Merlin, meanwhile, kept a close watch on the Beagle's state. But he wasn't a veterinarian, so there wasn't much he could do.
Fortunately, Gwen worked quickly, and with the raw materials Connors had left behind, a tube of green Regeneration Potion was brewed in half an hour.
The Beagle's will to live was also tenacious enough to hold on until the potion was finished.
Once the potion was complete, Merlin didn't hesitate much. He took it from Gwen's hand and injected it into the Beagle's body.
"It's almost dead. Will the Regeneration Potion still work?" Gwen looked at the dog with blood staining the corner of its mouth, a sense of pity rising within her.
"Who could have been so cruel to it?"
"It depends. As long as it doesn't breathe its last before the stem cells start dividing and generating new cells, it'll be fine."
Under their watchful eyes, the damaged cells inside the Beagle's body began splitting at an extremely rapid pace, generating new cells to fill the injured areas.
As new cells emerged, its faint breathing gradually steadied.
"Have you ever performed neutering on an animal?"
