Background

Gwen grew up next door to Merlin and has been his close friend since childhood. She met Peter Parker through him at school. As a Midtown High student, she is academically capable and particularly skilled in biological research; she also interns under Professor Connors. 5 12

By the time of the Midtown science exhibition, Gwen is already secretly active as Spider-Man. She conceals this identity from Merlin, initially deflecting his questions and presenting Spider-Man's requests as messages from an admired hero rather than from herself. 6 9 29

During the Lizardman crisis, Gwen collaborates with Merlin to study Connors' cross-species gene research. They infiltrate Osborn Industries, identify the Lizard regeneration mechanism as the serum's target, and eventually develop an antidote capable of suppressing the Lizard Gene mutation. 30 34 67

Gwen is energetic, teasing, and openly playful with Merlin, but becomes serious and protective when civilians or friends are endangered. She is quick to act against bullying, offers Peter self-defense help, and repeatedly risks herself to stop the Lizardman outbreak. 5 29 65

She is also compassionate even toward opponents. When Black Cat falls while escaping, Gwen immediately attempts a rescue despite Black Cat having attacked Merlin and deceived the group. 124
