Vol. 2The Triwizard Year

Jon entered the Triwizard Tournament, survived its tasks and Voldemort’s return, then took a new identity as Kristoff Patrick. He returned to Britain with Tonks to complete his transfer to Hogwarts.

Arc 5The Triwizard Year Begins

Jon helped uncover Peter Pettigrew’s betrayal, then prepared for Voldemort’s return while entering his fourth year at Hogwarts. The Triwizard Tournament was announced, and Jon began studying Dark magic, Runes, and Animagus lore as he formed new ties with Natalie and Astoria.

  • Dumbledore and Jon followed Lupin and Snape into the Shrieking Shack, where Peter Pettigrew was exposed, but Peter escaped after Lupin transformed and Jon drew the werewolf away from Harry and Hermione.
  • Dumbledore questioned Peter about betraying James and Lily, and Peter revealed that the item James entrusted to Gideon Prewett had passed to Molly Weasley before Dumbledore let him go.
  • Jon trapped Lupin with silver bullets and Devil’s Snare, then saw Snape’s silver doe Patronus drive Dementors away from Harry, Hermione, and Sirius.

After recovering, he explored Dumbledore’s memories of Grindelwald and learned that ingredients for Polyjuice Potion had been stolen from Snape’s office.

  • Hogwarts welcomed Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, and Dumbledore announced the Tournament before Jon met Madame Maxime and joined Astoria in visiting the Bowtruckles.
  • Dumbledore named Harry Potter and Jon as Hogwarts’ Champions, and Jon learned that he could not withdraw from the Tournament.

Arc 7The Second Task

Jon attended the Yule Ball with Astoria and prepared for the Second Task while studying potions and dark magic. He rescued all four hostages from the lake, took the lead in the tournament, and later learned that Harry had encountered Crouch in the forest as the Third Task approached.

  • Snape gave Jon a chart of the Potion Sequences to memorize, while Professor Sprout told him champions had to attend the Yule Ball with partners and dance.
  • After turning down several invitations, Jon learned that Astoria was his arranged dance partner and entered the ball with her in a black tailcoat she had made for him.

Arc 8The Third Task and a New Identity

Jon survived Voldemort’s attempt to use the Triwizard Cup, then let the wizarding world believe he was dead while Dumbledore arranged a new identity for him. After traveling to Durmstrang and Beauxbatons, Jon returned to Britain with Tonks to complete his transfer to Hogwarts.

  • Jon entered the Maze disguised as Moody, defeated Barty Crouch Jr., and arranged for Harry to reach the Goblet of Fire, which carried Harry and the unconscious Jon to Voldemort’s graveyard.
  • Wormtail used Harry’s blood to restore Voldemort, but Harry escaped with Jon’s body, and the wizarding world learned that Voldemort had returned and Jon was believed dead.
  • Jon revealed his survival and Barty Crouch Jr.’s plot to Dumbledore, then asked him to create a safe new identity and place for him abroad.
