Bug was racking his brains for an excuse to get out of it. Dealing with those religious fanatics in the Battle Sisters felt oppressive even through a screen, let alone face-to-face. If he said the wrong thing and got burned as a heretic, who could he even complain to?
Just then, Assimilation Complete, who had remained silent all this time, suddenly spoke up. "I think Bug really is an excellent choice.
"For one thing, he definitely won't do anything too outrageous while talking to the Battle Sisters. Whenever he chats with me, he's always going on about his [wife]."
Hearing that, Bug, who had still been planning to put up a fight, instantly froze.
Stabbed in the back by his own good buddy, Bug was practically choking on grief and indignation. The others might not know, but how could Assimilation not know? He had been bullshitting!
The "wife" he talked about wasn't a real person at all. He was just losing his mind over two-dimensional fictional characters online. And while he didn't change his sweetheart every single day, swapping her out once a month as new anime and games came out was perfectly normal. Last month, she had been a white-haired, red-eyed vampire princess; this month, she might be a pink-haired witch.
The players around him knew none of this and nodded in agreement.
"I see. So he's a devoted husband, too."
"Then he really is a good fit. The Sisters should appreciate that faithful, unwavering persona."
Seeing Bug's face alternate between pale and livid, someone noticed how reluctant he looked and suggested, "If you really don't want to go, Bug, why don't we call a military delegates' meeting and put it to a vote?"
The corner of Bug's mouth twitched. He shook his head helplessly. "Forget it. I'll go.
