At the edge of the 'Ruined City' within the cathedral formed by the Room of Requirement, Amosta murmured as he repeated the words spoken to him by the witch who called herself the Daughter of Voldemort.
He had to admit, his thoughts were somewhat unsettled.
This woman, Delphi, was clearly skilled in Legilimency. He could read nothing from her eyes, which held a cold smile.
So he looked instead at the three Gryffindor students. They, too, had come from the future.
"So—"
Amosta spoke softly, studying the expressions on all three of their faces.
"The path I chose for myself in the future... led to my death?"
Their reactions were interesting. None of them immediately denied it, and their faces revealed the same shock.
Especially the brown-haired girl. Her face had turned pale, her breathing was ragged, and her clear brown eyes widened in grief, as though she had thought of something.
"Precisely so—"
Delphi smiled. As she toyed with the Time-Turner Harry and the others had brought, she looked at Amosta with sympathy.
"In the future, you became an extraordinary wizard, Breen.
"You became a professor at Hogwarts. Oh, of course, compared to all the great deeds you accomplished, that was your most insignificant achievement.
"Many believed you were the most powerful wizard of that magical age, as well as the greatest. During the chaotic years after Voldemort returned to the wizarding world, it was almost entirely through your efforts that the wizarding world was stabilized."
"More powerful than Dumbledore? That doesn't sound too bad."
Amosta continued watching the three students. The boy with the lightning-shaped scar opened his mouth, but did not refute Delphi's claim.
"But you died—"
