As though she had seen something she could not understand, Amelia blinked hard with her crescent-shaped eyes, wrinkled the tip of her nose, which was touched with a pearly sheen, and leaned slightly closer to the line of tiny silver words. Once she confirmed she had not misread them, confusion showed on her delicate, ethereal face.
Amelia did not make a fuss. She picked up a quill slanted inside an ink bottle occupying one of the few available spaces on her desk, dipped it in ink, and quickly wrote a line on a slip of paper.
Then, the girl who had graduated from Ilvermorny less than a year ago quietly rose to her feet and opened one of the cabinets behind her, atop the row of filing cabinets. Um, it looked rather like a boxy microwave used by Muggles.
Amelia opened the microwave door, slipped the note inside, turned the dial to the proper position, and pressed a red button. With a brief flash of fire, the note she had sent vanished.
Though Amosta was chatting with Ms. Hill, at least eighty percent of his attention was on the young woman. And because of Amosta, Remus was also secretly observing her. They had both noticed Amelia's actions and roughly guessed what she was doing, but neither pointed it out.
A reply arrived quickly. With a faint hum from the box, flames once again swept across the microwave's dark interior, and a piece of parchment appeared out of thin air.
Amelia almost impatiently opened the microwave door and held the document to the light, skimming through its contents at a glance.
"Mandy—"
Amelia first looked at Mr. Amosta Breen with slight bewilderment before calling out softly.
"What is it, Amelia? Are you done already?"
Ms. Hill asked. She turned to Amosta
