Serious Consequences

Newt looked at the young wizard before him with clear eyes. In recent years, he had heard the young man's name more often than that of the Minister for Magic.

Tina and her friends loved discussing this handsome and exceptionally capable young man. Whenever The Daily Prophet had nothing much to report, it would publish a few curious anecdotes about Amosta Breen, because the paper knew people were curious about him.

Whenever his grandson came home for the summer and chattered endlessly about what had happened at school, at least half of it was related to Professor Breen.

Rolf had sworn that when he entered his third year next year, he would attend the physical education class founded by Amosta Breen as well. Newt had reservations about that.

Perhaps those unaware of the truth would be curious about this newly established class, but Newt could see the danger behind it.

Amosta Breen was teaching young wizards genuine dueling techniques. Dueling techniques meant for killing.

After learning of it, he had written to Albus to ask why he had permitted Hogwarts to offer such a dangerous course. But Dumbledore had not given him a clear answer. He had merely said that Amosta believed certain ancient techniques were still far from obsolete, and that, as the professor responsible for student safety, Amosta had the right to make that decision.

Whenever war broke out, the butcher's blade generally did not fall upon ordinary unarmed people. But if you had received rigorous training and were a qualified soldier—or possessed the fighting qualities of one—then even if you were only a child, whether slaughter would come knocking was hard to say.

Newt believed Albus understood these principles, yet he still trusted Amosta Breen deeply.

Newt trusted Albus's judgment, and so he trusted Amosta as well.
