Amosta's indifferent gaze fell upon the Basilisk as he spoke calmly.

The ferocious Basilisk flicked its tongue, and its hissing sounded somewhat aggrieved.
Salazar Slytherin was this Basilisk's creator. To it, Slytherin was like a father. It had obeyed Slytherin's instructions and remained in the Chamber of Secrets for a thousand years. Throughout those long years, it was only occasionally, when Slytherin's descendants returned to Hogwarts, that it could briefly indulge its nature.
In Lait's simple mind, since Slytherin had hidden that family crest within its venomous fang, it was a gift from its father. Yet this powerful wizard before it was forcing it to hand over its father's gift.
The blazing collar of fire rose and fell slightly, yet it sent an icy chill through the Basilisk. It knew perfectly well that the wizard before it would not hesitate to destroy it.
