Compared with the Muggle World, education in the Wizarding World seemed to have remained stuck several centuries in the past.
There were no primary schools or universities here, only Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which was roughly a combination of middle school and high school, and the schooling lasted a mere seven years.
And the quality of teaching was quite worrying!
Andy Collins vaguely remembered watching the film Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in his previous life. There had been a Flying Class professor who could not even handle a flying accident.
He had forgotten the man's name, but in any case, the professor had been utterly useless.
Children born into the Wizarding World generally did not attend Muggle schools. They considered them pointless.
Over the past eleven years, his mother Helen had only taught Andy how to read, some basic arithmetic, and common knowledge about the Wizarding World.
Other than that, she had simply let Andy read on his own.
Now Isabel had reached the age when she needed to learn to read, so the task of teaching her fell to Andy.
After all, Andy had always seemed exceptionally gifted and loved learning.
Kyle and Helen had said more than once that Andy would surely be sorted into Ravenclaw.
"Come on, little girl!"
Andy patted Isabel's little head. "If you don't finish today's lessons, you'll probably go hungry tonight."
"Stupid Andy!"
Isabel clutched her forehead and glared indignantly at Andy's retreating back. She hesitated, wanting to sneak away, but when she thought of what would happen if she did, the little girl sighed and dejectedly followed Andy toward the study.
Andy's family in this life was a typical ordinary wizarding family. There were four of them, living in a village where wizards and Muggles lived together.
Kyle worked at the Ministry of Magic, while Helen stayed home to look after the two children.
However, she was a Potions Master. She usually brewed potions and sent them to Diagon Alley to sell, earning more than Kyle made in several months of work.
Andy sometimes helped out as well.
Although St. Catchpole Village was home to both wizards and Muggles, the Muggles mostly lived together, while the wizards were scattered around the outskirts of the village. They hardly interacted with the Muggles in daily life.
Kyle and Helen had also strictly forbidden Andy and Isabel from playing with Muggle children.
Even the nearest wizarding neighbor to the Collins home was beyond two mountains.
As a result, Andy and Isabel had almost no friends.
It was not until Andy grew a little older and Kyle bought him a child-sized Flying Broom that he could occasionally fly over to the neighbors' homes to "see the world."
Other than that, they only got to meet outsiders when they accompanied Kyle and Helen on visits to their friends' homes.
In short, a Little Wizard's childhood was both leisurely and boring.
"All right, you did well today. That's enough for now." Andy stretched and closed his book.
Teaching a child to read was exhausting work, especially when the child was disobedient and often fooled around or tried to slack off.
"Andy, let's play hide-and-seek!"
Isabel instantly shook off her fatigue and perked right up, as though she had not been the one sulking with Andy moments ago.
"I found a secret hideout yesterday. If I hide there, you definitely won't find me," the little girl said conspiratorially.
"I hid your snacks last night."
Andy still had a book from last night that he had not finished reading. Seeing the little girl pester him relentlessly, he could only bring out his ultimate move. "If you can't find them, you won't get any snacks for the rest of the week."
"Andy—"
Isabel was about to go mad. Stupid Andy had hidden her snacks again, even though she had guarded them so carefully. "Just you wait!"
After sending off the fuming little girl, Andy pulled a book from the shelf but did not open it immediately.
"System!"
A translucent virtual interface appeared before Andy's eyes.
The system interface was exceedingly simple. At its center was a spherical icon. The sphere was transparent and contained nearly one-third full of red liquid.
Below the sphere was a line of text.
Potential Point: 1
From the day his magic had erupted at the age of six and awakened the system until today, a full five years had passed, yet Andy had only accumulated one Potential Point. Even now, he had not been willing to add it to his attributes.
The system gave no intelligent prompts, so Andy still could not figure out how the red liquid inside the sphere increased.
Personal data appeared on both the left and right sides of the sphere.
Left-side data:
Charms: 3 Transfiguration: 4 Dark Arts: 2 Alchemy: 3 Divination: 0
Right-side data:
Magic: 2 Soul: 4 Mind: 3 Thought: 3 Willpower: 2
The system's function was obvious at a glance. It was nothing more than a Stat Point System, perfectly suited to the noble status of a transmigrator.
However, judging solely from the data the system had provided so far, although it gave no specific evaluation, Andy believed that he was merely average.
After all, Kyle and Helen were not famous Great Wizards. They had been average students in school. Helen had only been good at Potions Class, while Kyle—he could basically be described as completely unremarkable.
It was already early June of 1991. Following past practice, an owl would deliver Hogwarts' acceptance letter next month.
So even though Potential Point: 1 looked far better than Potential Point: 0, Andy had no choice but to consider where to spend his points now.
As for which attribute to add them to, Andy had long since made up his mind.
Charms were undoubtedly the most important of all magic. Andy decided to raise his talent for Charms first before considering where to allocate points elsewhere.
With a thought—
"Insufficient Potential Points!"
The system, which had shown no reaction all this time, finally responded. Unfortunately, that response nearly made Andy want to uninstall it.
"Damn you, System. Do you know how much resolve it took for me to make that decision?"
"How many Potential Points do I need?"
"..."
The system seemed to have crashed.
"Since it says Potential Points are insufficient, does that mean the cost increases like 1, 2, 3, 4, or doubles like 1, 2, 4, 8?"
"If it increases gradually, that's fine. But if it doubles..."
Wouldn't that mean raising an attribute from 4 to 5 would require a full sixteen Potential Points?
Taking Charms: 3 alone, raising it from 3 to 4 would only require four Potential Points if the cost increased gradually. But if the cost doubled, it would require eight Potential Points.
"Hmm..."
Andy pondered for a moment.
Although he had yet to figure out how to obtain Potential Points, judging from the current difficulty alone, a talent score of 4 might already qualify as that of an ordinary genius.
"So... how exactly do I obtain Potential Points?"
Over the past few years, Andy had tried every method he could think of. Several times, he had even been embarrassed beyond belief, yet the red liquid in the sphere either remained completely unmoved or quietly rose a little at some unknown moment.
Even now, Andy was utterly at a loss.
