Andy studied the Fat Cat Patronus before him with a strange look in his eyes.

Through their shared minds, Andy discovered that the Fat Cat Patronus's state while casting spells was completely different from his own.

All spellcasting began with "thinking."

Even the simplest and most commonly used Cleaning Charm required the caster to form a concept of rubbish in their mind before casting the spell to clear it away.

The same was true for Protego.

When wizards used Protego, they had to establish the conviction to protect in their minds before they could cast the spell and create a defensive barrier.

Of course, those were only the basic requirements for casting spells.

In truth, to truly master a spell, one also needed to grasp the relevant theoretical knowledge.

But that was beside the point for now.

Back to spellcasting.

They both involved "thinking," but the Fat Cat Patronus's "thinking" was completely different from Andy's.

When the Fat Cat Patronus used Protego, Andy could clearly sense its conviction to protect him.

More importantly, the instant that conviction arose, Protego had already been successfully cast.

Hmm...

Some might ask, wasn't that the same thing? In fact, it really wasn't!

For example:

When we typed text on a phone.

First, we had to form the words in our minds, then type them into the phone.

Compared to spellcasting.

Forming the text in one's mind was the function of Mind Power.

Typing was the process of casting the spell.

Typing speed and proficiency reflected one's level of magical attainment.

That was conventional spellcasting!

But the Fat Cat Patronus was completely different.

It merely formed a passage of text in its mind, and the text automatically appeared on the phone screen.

In other words, the Fat Cat Patronus skipped the process
