Arc 18The Ming Empire Expands
Zhu Ying led the Ming Dynasty through the conquest of Wa Island, the southern kingdoms, and Joseon while expanding its infrastructure and military power. After foreign envoys sought trade and weapons, Zhu Ying set the court’s sights westward and ordered new campaigns across land and sea.
- Zhu Ying destroyed the Wa Southern and Northern Dynasties, then placed Wa Island under Ming rule with Satto and Ryukyu’s other kings governing under Feng Sheng’s supervision.
- Zhu Ying returned to Ying Tian Prefecture as Lan Yu reported the conquest of Eastern Jin, and Zhu Yuanzhang ordered the Sima clan executed before the court moved to Beiping and named it the Imperial Capital.
- Zhu Ying and Zhu Yuanzhang launched campaigns against Annam, Champa, Java, Sumatra, Srivijaya, Siam, Cambodia, and neighboring states, bringing much of Southeast Asia under Ming control.
- Zhu Ying sent Guo Zhen and Ming forces to Joseon, where they defeated Yi Bang-gwa and installed Zhu Wendai as the future king under Ming rule.
- Zhu Ying rewarded officials with Lifespan Fruit, oversaw new infrastructure and military preparations, and supported the princes’ New Year visit to imprisoned Zhu Di and Zhu Shuang.
- Envoys from foreign nations asked Zhu Yuanzhang and Zhu Ying for trade ties and Ming weapons, and Zhu Ying agreed to sell phased-out firearms while Liu Jing negotiated the deals.
- Zhu Ying assigned Mu Ying, Lan Yu, Xu Huizu, Chang Mao, and Feng Sheng to campaigns across the Western Regions, India, and the Persian Gulf, while directing officials to extend railways and organize supplies and trade.
