"What is this?"
Just as Huo Yuhao was rejoicing over successfully increasing his cultivation by one level, something unexpected suddenly happened. A strange sensation of movement inexplicably arose in the area between his brows.
That was where the Heaven's Eye was located. Its importance went without saying, so Huo Yuhao immediately focused all his attention on observing it, lest something go wrong. Otherwise, he would regret it too late.
Ever since the Heaven's Eye had emerged, it seemed to have always activated automatically. He still could not quite understand how to activate it, so perhaps he could take this opportunity to observe it carefully.
However, just as Huo Yuhao waited for a change to appear, the sensation of movement between his brows abruptly vanished, as though it had never existed.
Huo Yuhao was left standing there in a daze.
"Strange. I clearly felt something moving."
Huo Yuhao rubbed the space between his brows in confusion. Just now, he had sensed an extremely peculiar energy pulsing within his mind, as though it were calling for him to release the Heaven's Eye as quickly as possible.
What exactly was that? Why had that feeling suddenly been interrupted?
"Kid, how does it feel to break through in cultivation?"
Suddenly, a voice interrupted Huo Yuhao's thoughts.
Huo Yuhao hurriedly raised his head and saw Old Chen walking over from the other side, a teapot in his hand.
"Thank you." Huo Yuhao quickly stood and expressed his gratitude respectfully.
"You don't need to thank me." Old Chen appeared very easygoing. "Sit down while you talk. Don't keep getting up at the drop of a hat. It makes you look like a youngster full of energy."
Huo Yuhao scratched his head and smiled before sitting back down on the sofa.
"I know you're curious about why I helped you." Old Chen refilled his own cup with hot tea, then answered under Huo Yuhao's curious gaze. "The reason is simple. Your mother saved my granddaughter's life back then."
Huo Yuhao was clearly taken aback by this explanation.
"I won't go into too much detail about what happened back then. It was many years ago." Old Chen looked at Huo Yuhao, his tone serious. "What are you planning to do next?"
Old Chen did not want to talk about it, and Huo Yuhao would not press him about the events of that time. Seeing that he had brought up the main issue, Huo Yuhao was silent for a moment before saying, "I want to leave the Duke's Mansion. In the Duke's Mansion, the Duchess and Dai Huabin are like sharp swords hanging over my head. If I let my guard down for even a moment, that sword could fall and pierce me."
Old Chen nodded in understanding, but still raised a question. "But you're only a little over ten years old. How do you plan to survive in the future? Don't forget, your Innate Soul Power is only Level 1. Even if you raise it to Level 10, obtaining a Soul Ring will be as difficult as ascending to the heavens without an elder to help you."
"As for hunting Soul Beasts alone, do you understand? Soul Beasts aren't ants by the roadside that you can casually crush to death. Any Soul Beast would pose a fatal threat to you."
"To be frank, I can protect your life within the Duke's Mansion, but after you leave, I won't be able to help you anymore. I also have family in Star Luo City. There must be a limit to how much I can help you, so I can't cross that line."
"I understand everything you've said, Old Chen." Huo Yuhao took a deep breath.
Old Chen held up two fingers. "I'll give you two choices. First, stay in the Duke's Mansion for now. In a few years, I'll send you to the Military Camp, just like that child Dai Luoli. Second, leave in a few days and abandon the Duke's Mansion forever. But from then on, you'll have only yourself. The only person you can rely on will be yourself."
"I choose the second." A smile touched the corners of Huo Yuhao's lips, and he did not hesitate in the slightest.
"Are you sure?" Old Chen's tone was extremely solemn, and his face was filled with dignity.
"I am." The smile remained on Huo Yuhao's lips, but his tone was exceptionally firm. Being alone was nothing new to him. Hadn't it always been this way?
"With the second choice, you could lose your life at any time," Old Chen said in a deep voice.
Huo Yuhao was silent for a moment before saying, "If I were afraid of death, I wouldn't have chosen to resist those people. The first path would let me live, but in the end, I'd only be a good-for-nothing. The second path is different. Perhaps I might be able to rise again. Maybe one day I'll return to the Duke's Mansion and successfully take revenge on the Duchess and Dai Huabin."
"You really dare to dream, kid." Old Chen's face was full of astonishment. He had not expected Huo Yuhao's thoughts to be so bold. Leaving the Duke's Mansion was one thing, but he was already thinking about returning for revenge in the future.
"Heh heh." Huo Yuhao smiled. "I'm already risking my worthless life. If I make the wrong bet, the worst that can happen is that I lose my life. But what if I really do rise again?"
Old Chen shook his head. "If you really manage to rise again, then even if I die in the future, I'll write a will beforehand ordering my granddaughter to carve the words 'You win' on my gravestone."
The corner of Huo Yuhao's mouth twitched. "You're flattering me, Old Chen."
Old Chen laughed like an old child. "All right. Since you've chosen the second option, I won't oppose you. Leave the Duke's Mansion in five days."
"Why five days?" Huo Yuhao asked, puzzled.
Old Chen replied casually, "I still have quite a bit of Thousand-Year Soul Beast meat left. I can't finish it all by myself. Stay five more days and help me eat some of it, so it won't go to waste if it spoils."
Huo Yuhao's expression instantly froze, and his lips moved unconsciously.
Old Chen continued speaking to himself. "It's a pity that your meridians are too blocked. Aside from making your body a little stronger, this Soul Beast meat won't be able to help you much."
"Old Chen..." Huo Yuhao wanted to say something, but the words never left his mouth.
Old Chen said calmly, "We're all grown men, so don't be so sentimental. You must be tired too. Go take a bath and rest. Tomorrow, I'll teach you a few things that you may be able to use after leaving the Duke's Mansion."
"Yes." Huo Yuhao stood up and obediently prepared to leave the sitting room, but suddenly stopped. "Old Chen, do you have an ice cellar for storing food?"
"Why are you asking that?" Old Chen asked, puzzled.
"Here." Huo Yuhao pulled a mangled fish from his trouser pocket. "I caught this. Since it's food, we can't let it go to waste."
"There's an ice cellar in the basement. Go there yourself." Old Chen's eyelids lifted slightly, and a trace of surprise appeared in his eyes.
"All right." Huo Yuhao nodded and left.
The Sun Moon Empire might already have refrigerator-type Soul Tools, but the original three Great Empires of the Douluo Continent definitely did not. That was why Huo Yuhao had asked Old Chen about an ice cellar.
After placing the fish in the ice cellar, Huo Yuhao found a side bedroom and took a bath, washing away all the fatigue from his body. Of course, he also washed the quilt his mother had left him.
Once everything was done, he lay down directly on the exceedingly soft bed. The rain outside had stopped by then, but thick dark clouds still blanketed the sky. Without the illumination of lamps, everything would have been swallowed by darkness.
A slightly chilly breeze flowed in through the gap in the window that had not been closed tightly, stirring Huo Yuhao's hair. He looked at the ceiling and slowly raised his hand, sighing with emotion. "I wonder what my future will be like. I hope everything goes smoothly... Oh, right. I can't be a dog in this life."
