Chen Xu looked at Yang Jinxia on the bed in surprise. Her eyes were still tightly shut, but her lips were moving. It seemed that what she had just said had come out unconsciously.
Was she answering me? A surge of joy rose in his heart. That meant her consciousness had partially returned.
"Hey."
He reached out and gently patted her cheek. "Hey."
"Mm?"
Yang Jinxia's long lashes fluttered a few times. Somewhat irritated, she brushed his hand aside before slowly opening her eyes and looking dazedly at Chen Xu, who was sitting before her.
Seeing that she had awakened, Chen Xu finally breathed a sigh of relief. He turned to 2003 and said, "Go get a cup of hot water."
"Since Ms. Xia is awake, I won't disturb you any longer." S01 took the opportunity to say goodbye.
Chen Xu rose to his feet. "I'll see you out."
After they stepped outside and walked a few paces, Chen Xu said, "It was thanks to you notifying me in time. Otherwise..."
"Helping humans is our duty," S01 said.
Chen Xu nodded. "There's something I'd like to discuss with you. I want to stay here, and I'd like your permission."
S01 said, "Certainly. The shelter was originally established to give surviving humans a place to stay. Welcome, sir."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. I will upgrade your access from visitor to resident. You may choose a room here to live in."
"Much appreciated."
When Chen Xu returned to the room, Yang Jinxia had already sat up. She held a cup of water in both hands, taking small sips. At last, there was a hint of color in her formerly pale face.
When she saw him enter, she stopped drinking and stared at the steam rising from the cup, seemingly lost in thought.
