...What did this mean?
"Do you think Contract Land will force you to hand over the remaining Corpse Pieces?" Mina asked.
"'Force' is an accurate word."
"But would they really dare to do that?" Mina said. "With your strength and status, there is practically no one in this world above you. Even Contract Land might not..."
"They certainly would." Isaiah calmly interrupted Mina. "In this world, everyone is a servant of the Gods. In the eyes of the Gods, you and I are no different. Therefore, no one can defy the will of the Gods, and Visas' power is the Gods' sorest point. They will allow some servants to possess one or two Corpse Pieces, and may even be pleased to see it, because to some extent, that means Visas' legacy remains under Their control. But They would absolutely never want to see one person possess multiple Corpse Pieces."
Mina instinctively asked, "Why?"
"Because even today, They still fear Visas."
Mina's mouth fell open, and for a moment, she did not know what to say.
Isaiah clasped his hands behind his back and slowly walked forward. Mina hurried after him. At that moment, she felt as though she had returned to several decades ago, to the days when she had first followed Isaiah as his student. Only, back then, Isaiah had spoken of knowledge. Now, he spoke of "taboos," words of absolute blasphemy.
The Gods, beings that transcended all worldly existence, actually felt fear. And what They feared was a... creature that had died more than a thousand years ago?
Even now, no one knew what Visas truly was.
He could not have been human. Humans could not oppose the Gods. Yet he could not have been one of the Gods either. He seemed more like the Gods'... superior?
