Chapters 51–75 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 51Chimera Technique

Genitsu confronted the badly injured Hiruko, who revealed his Chimera Technique and tried to steal Genitsu’s Nuclear Release bloodline. As Hiruko attacked, Genitsu opened a storage scroll and summoned something he had considered too dangerous to use.

  • Hiruko staggered into the cave, and Genitsu stopped Obito from trusting him, revealing that Hiruko was dangerous and had targeted Genitsu before.
  • Hiruko accused Genitsu of abandoning him during their escape, while Genitsu explained that he had sensed Hiruko’s malice and would have taken him along otherwise.
  • Hiruko revealed that he had modified his body to fake his death and used his self-created Chimera Technique to steal others’ talents and bloodline limits.
  • Hiruko attacked Genitsu with regenerating flesh sprouts, while Obito’s Fireball Jutsu failed to stop him.
  • Genitsu opened a storage scroll and used the Summoning Technique, preparing to unleash a dangerous, incomplete weapon or creature.

Ch. 52Welcome to Hell

Genitsu used his Cancer Clone to turn Hiruko’s Chimera Technique against him. As the cancer cells consumed Hiruko, Genitsu freed himself and Obito, leaving Hiruko to face his destruction.

  • Hiruko attacked Genitsu and Obito, trapping them in the Chimera Technique’s fusion process.
  • Obito awakened his Two-Tomoe Sharingan, and Hiruko became eager to absorb his eyes.
  • Genitsu revealed his Cancer Clone, whose rapidly multiplying cells entered Hiruko’s body.
  • Hiruko failed to control the cancer cells, which multiplied faster whenever he used Chakra and began consuming him.
  • Genitsu broke free of Hiruko’s flesh sprouts and pulled Obito out, telling Hiruko, “welcome to hell.”

Ch. 53Awakening

Genitsu used Hiruko’s Cancer Cells to test whether they could generate Chakra, drawing the newly produced energy into himself. The surge stirred Godzilla within Genitsu and shattered Hiruko’s will, leaving him under Genitsu’s control.

  • Genitsu warned Obito to stay back as Hiruko’s body was consumed by the Cancer Cells.
  • Hiruko attacked Genitsu with his flesh buds, and Genitsu linked his will to the Cancer Cells and began controlling them.
  • Genitsu made the Cancer Cells produce Chakra and drained the new energy from Hiruko.
  • The Chakra surge stirred Godzilla, whose gaze overwhelmed Hiruko inside Genitsu.
  • Hiruko fled in terror, but Genitsu used the Cancer Cells to control him and told Obito something interesting had happened.

Ch. 54Humanoid Summoning Beast

Genitsu escaped Hiruko’s attack and secretly marked him with a Summoning Technique contract before letting him flee. Back in Konoha, Genitsu’s supposed Forbidden Technique and victory over Gari made the village see him as a rising powerhouse.

  • Kazue arrived at the cave and learned that Hiruko had attacked Genitsu after defecting from the village.
  • Genitsu secretly placed a Summoning Technique contract mark on Hiruko, released him, and stopped Obito and Kazue from chasing him.
  • Kazue warned Obito to keep Genitsu’s secrets, and Obito revealed that he had awakened his eyes.
  • Genitsu, Kazue, and Obito met Yūhi Shinku and returned to Konoha, where Genitsu explained Hiruko’s defection.
  • Shinku mistook Genitsu’s losses from using a Forbidden Technique for lasting harm and promised to arrange medical care.
  • News that Genitsu had killed Gari with a secret technique spread rapidly through Konoha.

Ch. 55An Old Man Takes a Fancy to Him!

After Shiranui Genitsu killed Gari with a Forbidden Technique, the major ninja villages raised their threat assessment of him and Konoha celebrated his achievement. The Third Hokage considered how to keep Genitsu close, while Danzo offered to pursue Hiruko and declared an interest in Genitsu.

  • Kitsuchi learned that Gari and his squad had been wiped out by Genitsu, then ordered Genitsu's kill priority raised and a huge bounty placed on him.
  • News of Gari's death spread through the Shinobi World, prompting rival villages to consider eliminating Genitsu, while Orochimaru noted that Danzo and Hiruko would be disappointed he survived.
  • Konoha celebrated Genitsu's achievement, and the Third Hokage heard Yūhi Shinku's report and considered summoning Genitsu to learn the cost of his Forbidden Technique.
  • Danzo told the Third Hokage that Hiruko had defected and conducted forbidden human experiments, offered Root for the pursuit, and said he took a great fancy to Genitsu.

Ch. 56The Old Man Has Taken a Fancy to You!

Genitsu reunited with his former classmates over a costly barbecue meal and learned that many young shinobi had died in the war. On his way to meet the Hokage, he resisted a genjutsu and encountered Danzo, who declared that he wanted Genitsu as his disciple.

  • Genitsu met Genma, Gekko Hayate, and Ebisu at a barbecue restaurant, then shared a meal with Kazue and Might Guy.
  • Ebisu told Genitsu that Uenaka Yuto and many other shinobi from their year had died in the war.
  • An ANBU summoned Genitsu to the Hokage Building late that night, and Genitsu set off after saying goodbye to his companions.
  • Genitsu noticed and broke a combined genjutsu on his way to the Hokage Building.
  • Danzo emerged with Root ninja and told Genitsu that he had come to take him as his disciple.

Ch. 57Exchanging Forbidden Techniques and the Scroll of Seals

Genitsu accepted Danzo as his teacher and explained his White Hot Light technique to the Third Hokage, who added it to the Scroll of Seals. In return for the technique and his military service, Genitsu chose a forbidden technique he believed would help him control Godzilla: Nine Mask Svāhā.

  • Genitsu agreed to become Danzo’s disciple and accompanied him to the Third Hokage’s office.
  • The Third Hokage questioned Genitsu about White Hot Light, and Genitsu claimed that using it shortened his lifespan.
  • Genitsu offered to record White Hot Light in the Scroll of Seals, and the Third Hokage let him choose a forbidden technique in return.
  • After examining the Scroll of Seals, Genitsu chose Nine Mask Svāhā.

Ch. 58Chakra, That Sort of Thing

Genitsu learned Nine Mask Svāhā from the Third Hokage because he believed it would help him divide Godzilla and create Sub-Body Godzilla. Danzo brought him to Root, where Genitsu saw its brutal training and encountered the ruined Aburame Shikuroo.

  • The Third Hokage unsealed Nine Mask Svāhā, and Genitsu memorized the technique he had chosen to help create Sub-Body Godzilla.
  • Danzo questioned Genitsu’s choice, then brought him to Root and declared that he would train and eventually command it.
  • Danzo showed Genitsu Root’s human experiments and bloody training, and Genitsu reacted calmly without objecting.
  • Danzo said Genitsu would be spared Root’s information-sealing curse mark and explained that Shikuroo had been ruined by Genitsu’s toxin.
  • Genitsu praised Danzo’s mistaken theory that his toxin used microscopic particles to destroy cells, then looked at Shikuroo and sighed about Chakra.

Ch. 59Forbidden Technique

Shikuro begged Genitsu to conduct human experiments on him after Danzo rejected him, while Genitsu became Danzo’s disciple and drew the clans’ attention. Setsuna prepared Kazue for the possibility that Genitsu’s experiments would fail by revealing the Uchiha’s forbidden technique, Izanagi.

  • Danzo dismissed Shikuro from Root, calling him useless and ordering him to return to the Aburame Clan.
  • Genitsu treated Shikuro kindly, and Shikuro begged him to conduct human experiments; Genitsu said Shikuro was not ready and left, considering how he might still be useful.
  • News that Danzo had taken Genitsu as his disciple spread through Konoha, prompting the clans to speculate about the Third Hokage’s motives and Root’s growing influence.
  • Setsuna warned Kazue to be cautious around Danzo, then asked about her worsening illness; Kazue refused to let anyone remove her tumors.
  • Setsuna brought Kazue to a secret Uchiha chamber and revealed Izanagi, instructing her to use the forbidden technique if her situation became irretrievable.

Ch. 60Heh, That's It?

Setsuna regretted losing the chance to draw Genitsu into the Uchiha clan’s camp, while the village began the Chūnin Exams. Asuma tried to outdo Genitsu on the written test, which ended with Genitsu calmly tackling an essay about war and the Will of Fire.

  • Setsuna watched Kazue leave and lamented that he had never found a chance to brainwash Genitsu, whom Danzō had taken as a disciple.
  • Setsuna decided that if Kazue died, he would stop enduring and seek a way to attack Genitsu and seize his bloodline.
  • Obito complained about having to take the Chūnin Exams, while Rin reassured him and Guy and Might Duy celebrated their determination to study.
  • Asuma recruited Kurenai and Yamanaka Santianhuo to interfere with Genitsu during the written exam, believing theory was his chance to defeat him.
  • Asuma struggled with the exam’s bizarre questions as the chief examiner urged the candidates to keep working and pointed out that Genitsu had begun the final essay.

Ch. 61Good Grief!

Genitsu earned full marks on the theory exam and passed the practical combat test to become a chuunin, while Asuma resented Genitsu’s views and results. Genitsu then set out with Kazue to address her unusual three-tomoe Sharingan, with Kazue prepared to accept any outcome.

  • Genitsu answered the theory exam with an essay that impressed the examiners, while his presence thwarted other students’ attempts to cheat from him.
  • Asuma imitated Genitsu’s writing style for the final question, but the results placed Genitsu first and Asuma second to last; Obito received a provisional pass.
  • Asuma confronted the Third Hokage over Genitsu’s paper, rejected his father’s explanation of the Will of Fire, and stormed out.
  • Genitsu passed the practical combat test as every opponent forfeited, earning his chuunin status.
  • Genitsu left with Kazue to find a way to resolve her problem, and Kazue said she was ready to proceed without regrets.

Ch. 62Human Experimentation

Genitsu examined Kazue in the hidden laboratory and began studying her cancerous cells and Ōtsutsuki bloodline, while she activated Izanagi to give the experiment more chances. Elsewhere, Hiruko struggled with the cancer cells Genitsu had implanted in him, then was suddenly summoned away.

  • Genitsu brought experimental equipment stolen from Root and prepared to experiment on Kazue, who activated Izanagi and explained that it would rewrite reality after about five minutes.
  • Genitsu examined Kazue and found widespread cell death and uncontrolled cancerous growth caused by prolonged exposure to nuclear radiation.
  • Genitsu decided to transform Kazue's body into an extension of himself and began collecting samples and extracting her Chakra.
  • Hiruko recalled fleeing after his failed attack on Genitsu and Obito and using the Chimera Technique to suppress the cancer cells in his body.
  • Hiruko cursed Genitsu and the cancer cells for yielding no bloodline or Chakra, then a Summoning Technique swept him away.

Ch. 63Future of Hell

Genitsu experimented on Hiruko and used his cancer cells and Chakra to force Kazue’s dormant bloodline genes to awaken. Kazue survived the second experiment with a powerful, cold Chakra resisting the cancer cells, but her future under Genitsu’s control remained perilous.

  • Genitsu summoned Hiruko, examined how his cancer cells were consuming his body, and extracted a large amount of his Chakra.
  • Genitsu explained that White Zetsu cells would destroy Kazue’s remaining healthy cells, then implanted his own cancer cells in her and told her to use Chakra to awaken her dormant genes.
  • Kazue’s body was overwhelmed by the cancer cells, and Izanagi restored her after five minutes, leaving one Sharingan grayish white.
  • Genitsu began a second experiment with more radiation, pushing Kazue’s DNA toward collapse as she fought the cancer cells.
  • Kazue’s cold, sinister Chakra erupted and resisted the cancer cells, preserving her remaining eye and apparently awakening her dormant genes.

Ch. 64Madara's Genjutsu Attack!

Kazue survived Genitsu’s experiment in a powerful body made mostly from his cancer cells, and Genitsu later visited Granny Madara as she neared death. Granny Madara revealed her suspicion that Genitsu had discovered her plan and attacked him with Sharingan genjutsu.

  • Kazue examined her transformed body, learned that it depended on Genitsu’s cancer cells, and thanked him for saving her.
  • Elder Uchiha Setsuna thanked Genitsu for the successful experiment, while Genitsu challenged him over what he would have done if Kazue had died.
  • Genitsu received his shadow clone’s memory that Granny Madara was dying and wanted to see him, then went to Obito’s home.
  • Granny Madara thanked Genitsu for helping Obito awaken his Two-Tomoe Sharingan and warned that she would investigate how much he knew.
  • Granny Madara unleashed her Sharingan genjutsu on Genitsu, filling his vision with a spinning Three-Tomoe Sharingan.

Ch. 65Planet Godzilla!

Madara tried to control Genitsu with a genjutsu, but his consciousness encountered the immense Godzilla inside Genitsu and was swallowed. After Madara recognized Genitsu as a potential tool and demanded Obito, Genitsu sent Shadow Clones to find him and considered pursuing a new path to peace.

  • Madara cast a genjutsu on Genitsu, but found himself inside a vast inner world facing the colossal Godzilla.
  • Godzilla swallowed Madara's Chakra-bearing consciousness, worsening the collapse of his already fragile body.
  • Genitsu revealed that Godzilla was his companion beast, while Madara compared it to the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path and called Genitsu similar to a jinchūriki.
  • Genitsu deduced that Madara was the legendary Madara Uchiha and offered to help with Obito, but Madara ordered him to bring Obito instead.
  • Genitsu left to search for Obito with Shadow Clones and resolved to pursue a path beyond the failed ways of ninja and the Ōtsutsuki Clan.

Ch. 66Rushing to the Eastern Front

After Obito buried the disguised White Zetsu he believed was his grandmother, Genitsu comforted him and spoke with Kazue about her experiment and the coming war. Danzo promoted Genitsu to Special Jonin and ordered him to lead a squad against the Hidden Mist on the eastern front.

  • Obito mourned his supposed grandmother, and Genitsu reassured him that she would rest in the Pure Land.
  • Genitsu walked through Konoha with Might Guy and Kazue, discussing the worsening war and Kazue's growing but dangerous Chakra reserves.
  • Genitsu visited Danzo at Root, where Danzo warned him not to grow close to the Uchiha clan.
  • Danzo told Genitsu that the Third Raikage had been killed after Iwagakure ambushed the Hidden Cloud, leaving the Hidden Mist as Konoha's remaining enemy on the eastern front.
  • Danzo promoted Genitsu to Special Jonin and assigned him to lead a squad against the Hidden Mist, with Hyuga Iroha as vice-captain.

Ch. 67Fugaku's Decision

Genitsu led a fifteen-person squad to hunt Hidden Mist infiltrators before joining Konoha’s eastern front, where the Uchiha and Hyuga clans were under heavy attack. As Fugaku prepared to fight without support from Hizashi, the story left the battle about to begin.

  • Genitsu gathered Root ninja Iroha, Kazue, Guy, Duy, and other shinobi into a squad bound for the eastern front.
  • Genitsu’s squad found and destroyed two Hidden Mist squads infiltrating the Land of Fire.
  • Kazue used his Sharingan to control a captured Hidden Mist ninja, who revealed that the infiltrators were investigating Konoha’s defenses and causing destruction.
  • Genitsu ordered the squad to hurry to the front after learning that Hidden Mist forces had reached deep into the Land of Fire.
  • A communications ninja told Fugaku that Hidden Mist had attacked again and Hizashi could not provide support, so Fugaku prepared more than two hundred Uchiha to meet them in battle.

Ch. 68Genitsu Squad Arrives!

Fugaku’s Uchiha force and the nearby Hyuga were overwhelmed as Ao’s Hidden Mist troops launched a major assault, killing Naoya and driving Fugaku toward using a dangerous technique. Just as Fugaku was about to reveal it, Genitsu and his squad arrived to reinforce him.

  • Fugaku ordered Shisui and Naoya to help defend the Uchiha against the approaching Hidden Mist force.
  • Hidden Mist ninja flooded the battlefield with Chakra mist, outnumbered the defenders, and began killing Uchiha clansmen with Silent Killing Technique.
  • Fugaku sent for aid from Jiraiya and ordered his force to retreat inland as Naoya reported that more than three hundred enemies had landed.
  • Ao killed Naoya, took his Byakugan, and revealed himself as the leader of the attacking Hidden Mist force.
  • Fugaku’s Sharingan power intensified as he prepared to use a dangerous technique, but Genitsu and his squad arrived and announced themselves.

Ch. 69Nuclear Release... Source Erasure Technique

Genitsu used his Nuclear Release to poison the Hidden Mist ninja through their own chakra-infused mist, turning the battle into a deadly retreat. After Ao pursued him and attacked, Genitsu seized him and began a horrifying technique that merged his clones into Ao.

  • Genitsu arrived with his team and spread radiation through the mist, weakening the Hidden Mist ninja as Fugaku led the Konoha forces in retreat.
  • Ao recognized Genitsu as a major threat and rallied hundreds of Hidden Mist ninja to pursue and kill him.
  • Genitsu increased the radiation as the pursuers suffered severe physical breakdowns, allowing many Uchiha to escape.
  • Ao and the other Hidden Mist ninja attacked Genitsu with Water Release techniques, but he grabbed Ao and ignored the wound to his hand.
  • Genitsu created two Nuclear Release Clones, had them seize Ao, and began the Nuclear Release: Source Erasure Technique, merging their hands into Ao's body.

Ch. 70Tailed Beast Ball!!

Genitsu killed Ao and took his Byakugan, turning the battle against the Hidden Mist forces into a rout. After the fog cleared, Hyuga Iroha warned that enormous Chakra was gathering over the sea, and Genitsu recognized an incoming Tailed Beast Ball.

  • Shisui saw Genitsu’s clones merge into Ao and watched Genitsu use his Source Erasure Technique to immobilize him.
  • Genitsu killed Ao, cut off his ears, and removed the Byakugan before Ao could seal it.
  • Genitsu ordered the Konoha forces to pursue the Hidden Mist ninjas, whose Chakra cloaks and dwindling Chakra left many dying as they fled.
  • The fog dispersed, and Fugaku and the returning Konoha ninjas thanked and revered Genitsu for turning the battle around.
  • Hyuga Iroha spotted an enormous Chakra gathering over the sea, and Genitsu identified it as a Tailed Beast Ball.

Ch. 71Lord Fugaku Took Flight

The Third Mizukage unleashed a Tailed Beast Ball at Landing Point C, forcing Fugaku and Genitsu to stay behind as the others fled. Fugaku survived blocking the first blast with his Mangekyō Sharingan, and Genitsu stepped in to confront a second one with Nuclear Release.

  • The Third Mizukage killed the messenger and fired a Tailed Beast Ball at Landing Point C, prompting Fugaku to order a retreat.
  • Genitsu gave Kazue the bloodstained Byakugan and stayed behind with Fugaku, while Duy reluctantly followed the others inland.
  • Fugaku revealed his Mangekyō Sharingan and used Susanoo to meet the first Tailed Beast Ball head-on, but the blast sent him flying and left him badly injured.
  • As the Third Mizukage formed a second Tailed Beast Ball, Fugaku tried to stand again, but Genitsu and two Nuclear Release Clones moved in front of him.
  • The three Genitsus unleashed White Hot Light toward the incoming Tailed Beast Ball.

Ch. 72I'm Fine

Genitsu and his clones repelled the Third Mizukage’s Tailed Beast Ball, forcing Fugaku and Genitsu to retreat from the Hidden Mist forces. Fugaku believed Genitsu was badly injured, but Genitsu revealed he was nearly recovered.

  • Genitsu and his two Nuclear Release Clones combined their White Hot Lights and pushed the Tailed Beast Ball back toward the Hidden Mist forces.
  • Suikazan Fuguki charged to intercept the returning Tailed Beast Ball, while he appointed Kisame captain of the frontline assassination unit and ordered him to target Genitsu.
  • Genitsu recalled his exhausted clones, and Fugaku carried him away while keeping his Mangekyō Sharingan active.
  • Genitsu warned Fugaku that powerful Hidden Mist enemies were watching them, and Fugaku agreed to retreat and report their movements to Jiraiya.
  • Fugaku promised to help heal Genitsu, who claimed the Forbidden Technique had severely depleted his Chakra, then admitted he was only five percent short of full recovery.

Ch. 73The Beginning of a New Era

After Hidden Mist launched a decisive assault, Genitsu earned renown for helping the Uchiha repel the attack and learned that Madara was manipulating the Mizukage and the Three-Tails. He asked White Zetsu to arrange a meeting with Madara and his successor, then heard that the Hyuga Clan had come to demand the Byakugan again.

  • Hidden Mist attacked the eastern front, and Genitsu and the Uchiha returned to camp after helping drive back the enemy.
  • Genitsu told Jiraiya that he and Fugaku had blocked a Tailed Beast Ball with his lifespan-consuming Forbidden Technique.
  • Genitsu asked Fugaku to teach him the Hidden Mist Technique, then discovered White Zetsu hiding beneath his tent.
  • Genitsu concluded that Madara controlled the Third Mizukage and the Three-Tails, and asked White Zetsu to arrange a meeting with Madara and his successor.
  • Genitsu reflected that Obito might soon be sent to the western battlefield for the Battle of Kannabi Bridge.
  • A Root ninja reported that members of the Hyuga Clan had arrived demanding the Byakugan again.

Ch. 74Tailless Tailed Beast

Genitsu refused to return the recovered Byakugan to the Hyuga Clan, invoking Danzo and Root’s rules as Jiraiya stopped the dispute from escalating. As the final battle began, Kisame chose Genitsu as his next target.

  • Kazue and the Root members confronted Hizashi and the Hyuga Clan, who demanded the Byakugan back.
  • Genitsu told Hizashi that Danzo would decide the eye’s fate and warned that an attack on Root would amount to a declaration of war.
  • Jiraiya arrived and ordered both sides to return to their tents, and Hizashi led the Hyuga away without reclaiming the Byakugan.
  • Genitsu sealed the Byakugan in a scroll and ordered his squad to prepare for the coming battle.
  • Kisame killed Konoha ninja and decided to hunt Genitsu after identifying him and Uchiha Fugaku as targets.

Ch. 75So Many Tailed Beastless Tailed Beasts?!

Kisame Hoshigaki repeatedly tried to kill Genitsu but was thwarted by Kazue’s immense Chakra, Genitsu’s clones, and the Might family. Genitsu finally captured Kisame after the injured ninja’s escape attempts failed.

  • Kisame tracked down Genitsu, but Kazue intercepted his attack and fought him in a prolonged exchange of powerful ninjutsu.
  • Kazue’s Cancer Cells began spiraling out of control, forcing her to retreat, while Genitsu killed Kisame’s subordinates and Kisame fled.
  • Kisame returned with a new team and attacked Genitsu, but Genitsu’s clones defeated his men and badly wounded him.
  • Might Guy and his older companion kicked Kisame, leaving him injured and unable to escape.
  • A Genitsu clone seized Kisame’s hands and merged into his body, allowing Genitsu to arrive and capture him.
