Many Americans might not have regarded Black people as human beings in their hearts, but at the very least, they really did pay them wages. On that point alone, Black Americans enjoyed the best living conditions of any Black population in the world. As for Haiti and Liberia, the two Black-majority countries, although Black people held greater political status there, their economies were a complete mess. Aside from the social elite, life there was not as comfortable as staying in the United States.

Luosong said, "Our country's population has grown rapidly, benefiting from a relatively sound medical and public health system, as well as the development now underway across Africa. Since the late 1890s, all kinds of diseases in East Africa have declined sharply, a trend especially evident in humid, hot regions such as the coast. This has created a pronounced contrast between our country and West Africa."

Tropical regions had many diseases, but in fact, during the twentieth century, they did not differ greatly from temperate and subtropical regions. The difference was more apparent in cold, high-latitude areas such as northern Europe.

Among tropical diseases, malaria stood out most prominently. Malaria still existed in East Africa, but with East Africa's development, it no longer broke out in large, concentrated outbreaks. Among countries at the same latitude, its incidence could be called the lowest, even lower than in some temperate countries.

"Second, with the development of industry and agriculture, our people's standard of living has risen markedly compared with the previous century. Agricultural product prices have consistently remained low, while per capita consumption of food, clothing, and all other kinds of industrial goods has increased substantially."

Agriculture was the foundation guaranteeing East Africa's population growth. East Africa's agricultural sector could not only achieve self-sufficiency, but also export large quantities.
