Background

Greed Island and Gon

Ging co-created Greed Island with Razor, List, Elena, Ida, Dorn, and other collaborators; the game's title is formed from its creators' initials 57. Though released as an exclusive Nen-based game, its central purpose was to serve as a long-term training ground for his son, Gon 57.

Ging arranged a path intended to guide Gon toward becoming a capable Hunter: Kite would lead him toward the Hunter profession, Nen training would reveal Ging's Greed Island recording, and the game itself would test and develop him before Kite resumed his instruction 57 429.

Shortly after Gon's birth, Ging entered Greed Island carrying the infant and met Morin under the in-game name Nico. Morin recognized the alias and compelled Ging to introduce himself truthfully 63 64. Ging later entrusted Gon to his cousin Mito on Whale Island, leaving him to be raised there while Ging returned to his travels and preparations 64 69.

Hunter Career

Ging's work spans archaeology, biology, geology, metallurgy, bounty hunting, and the development of the Two-Headed Wolf's breeding method 124 344. He borrowed Morin's Restoration Light to restore the Ruruka Ruins, an achievement that earned him promotion to Two-Star Hunter and public recognition for preserving cultural heritage 70 144.

Despite his accomplishments, Ging's erratic conduct made him deeply unpopular within the Hunter Association, including after he joined the Zodiac as the Pig of the Earthly Branch 64 155.

Ging strongly resembles an adult Gon, particularly in his face and eyes, but usually presents himself in an unkempt, travel-worn manner 63 299.

He is notably shy about fatherhood and uncomfortable with public attention surrounding Gon. He hid his name while carrying the newborn Gon, avoided meeting Gon directly for years, and became visibly flustered when their relationship was exposed 64 376 427.

Ging's parenting is distant but deliberate. He refuses to directly ease Gon's path, instead arranging difficult opportunities intended to make Gon develop independently 57 65 296. Chimera Ant Conflict and Reunion
