Background / History

Guan Yinzi founded Louguan Dao more than a millennium ago after obtaining the Spiritual Treasure Four Symbols Two Forms Banner. He built a grass dwelling, observed the stars and qi, and named the sect Louguan Dao. His will and those of later patriarchs remain within the sect’s ancestral inheritance. 247 248

The sect was originally based at Mount Zhongnan in Fengxiang Prefecture. Emperor Taizong later moved it to Huayin County, placing it near the capital region and deepening its connection to the Great Qin court. 233

As a sect supported by the imperial Li clan, Louguan Dao became known as Great Qin’s state religion. Its high masters hold court titles, its Sect Master Yan Daotong serves nominally as Governor of Huazhou, and its Huayin post station functions as a meeting place for officials, nobles, and sect representatives. 235 236

Li Cunxiao entered Louguan Dao under True Lord Taiyi’s sponsorship. He was rapidly elevated from inner disciple to true disciple, received the patriarchs’ recognition in the Three Origins Ultimate True Grotto-Heaven, and obtained the complete Nine Revolutions Flowing Pearls Nine Elixir Scripture. 237 247 248

The sect’s position near the capital became increasingly dangerous as Great Qin weakened. It repelled a Demonic Cult attack and later fought off a Qida invasion, but Zhu Quanzhong’s subsequent assault devastated the Huayin mountain gate. 275 316 324 330

During the final battle, True Lord Taiyi was killed while protecting the sect, though Li Cunxiao preserved his Primordial Spirit Dharma Idol. Yan Daotong then abandoned Huayin and led the remaining Louguan Dao lineage west toward Lintao and the Gansu regions; half a year later, the sect had secured a foothold in Hexi. 333 334 352

Four Symbols and Two Forms

Louguan Dao’s mountain gate was built across the Four Symbols Peaks:

• Azure Dragon Peak — Also called Qinghua Mountain; associated with True Lord Taiyi and the Azure Dragon lineage. 236 237

The Sect Master’s lineage stands above the four symbolic lineages. The four Gate Masters and their true disciples oversee much of the sect’s daily affairs, while elders and stewards manage internal matters. 235 247

Four Symbols True Art

Louguan Dao’s core inheritance is the Four Symbols True Art, divided among the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise lineages. The Azure Dragon branch’s ultimate inheritance, the Azure Dragon True Canon, consists of seven high-grade martial arts corresponding to the Seven Mansions of the Azure Dragon. 207 231

Its symbolic lineages specialize in complementary crafts:

• Vermilion Bird lineage — Pill refining.
• White Tiger lineage — Artifact refining.
• Azure Dragon lineage — Both pill refining and artifact refining. 234

The sect treats pill refinement, weapon refinement, and martial cultivation as connected disciplines based on grasping Yin and Yang and generating transformation. 234

Nine Revolutions Flowing Pearls Nine Elixir Scripture

The Nine Revolutions Flowing Pearls Nine Elixir Scripture is a divine skill of the Sect Master’s lineage. Though rooted in pill arts, it is also a Pill Martial Secret Art applicable to martial combat, weapon refinement, Spiritual Treasure refinement, and the gathering of demonic pills. 234 249

Li Cunxiao received the complete scripture directly through Guan Yinzi’s Dharma Transmission, bypassing the sect’s usual restrictions on access to divine skills. 248 249

Louguan Dao’s proximity to the capital grants it prestige but also exposes it to court politics. Its sect masters and true disciples include descendants of dukes, marquises, and families whose fortunes are closely tied to Great Qin. 235 236

As imperial authority declined, the sect became a target for competing powers seeking its Pill Dao, Grandmasters, and Spiritual Treasure. The Ming Cult, Qida invaders, King of Liang Zhu Quanzhong, and King of Jin Li Yisheng all treated Louguan Dao as a strategically valuable force. 271 307 325 333
