"Why had a Source Universe appeared? This shouldn't be happening! He-El... His future had vanished. He was the Source Universe itself—why? Impossible. What accident was this?"

Beyond God's Domain lay Limbo, the final destination of the lost and forgotten. Limbo was the farthest edge of the multiversal map, where matter and memory were both broken down.

Beyond Limbo stood Destiny, high above all multiverses.

Destiny was a member of the Endless. The Endless consisted of seven members, personifications of the seven fundamental forces of existence itself. Their seniority was arranged according to the order in which they appeared. Though unrelated by blood, they were as close as family.

In order, they were Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair, and Delirium.

Destiny, whose given name was Potmos and whose true name was Destiny, was a supreme concept of the DC Universe. He had existed before the universe was born and was the eldest of the Endless.

Destiny was blind. Clad in a brown robe, he held the Book of Destiny, which was shackled to him. The book contained all creation in the DC Universe, recording everything from the past, present, and future.

Destiny was quiet and indifferent. He knew everything, yet never deliberately interfered with the course of events, for all things had their ordained fate. His realm was a labyrinthine garden of countless branching paths, above innumerable realities. Only Destiny knew where each path led.

Destiny watched the Book of Destiny at all times. The next future originally written in its pages concerned Dream—whose given name was Morpheus and whose true name was Dream—the supreme concept of the DC Universe and the Sandman of the dream world. He had existed from the moment the first life in the universe dreamed.
