Clark Kent fell silent at those words.
He had been raised from childhood by the Kents on Earth. Throughout the years when his entire worldview took shape, they had taught Clark Kent to become Superman.
The Kents, both ordinary Earthlings, deserved immense credit for raising Clark Kent so well.
Only after his worldview had solidified did Clark Kent learn that he was not an Earthling, but a Kryptonian left behind by distant Krypton.
Believing himself to be Kal-El, Clark Kent once again received an education, this time from Jor-El, whom he believed to be his biological father.
Jor-El taught Clark Kent everything about Krypton's final days and the House of El.
From then on, Clark Kent became Superman.
Until—He-El arrived!
He-El's arrival brought defeat to the Justice League on Earth. One by one, he killed its members.
The last survivors, The Flash, Batman, and Black Adam, tried to travel back in time to before Krypton exploded, when He-El was still a child. They wanted to kill him then and put an end to him.
Ultimately, however, they failed. Instead, they finally allowed He-El to anchor himself in the DC universe and survive as He-El.
Moreover, when Clark Kent was born, He-El stripped away the essence of Jor-El and his wife and mixed in his own.
In the end, the Clark Kent born to Jor-El and his wife had no connection to Jor-El whatsoever. He was He-El's son.
And Superman, Clark Kent, Kal-El—his true name should have been Clark He-El.
With He-El as his surname.
But Clark Kent had seen with his own eyes how his father, He-El, defeated the Justice League and killed every member, leaving only him alive.
Clark Kent had always harbored resentment toward He-El. Even after hundreds of years had passed
