A newly born baby universe was needed as the foundational material for a Shapeshifting Ship. Combined with the Monitors' advanced technology, it could be made into a Shapeshifting Ship symbiotic with a level-three Source Universe custodian.
The Shapeshifting Ship and the level-three Source Universe custodian existed in symbiosis. It appeared that the level-three Source Universe custodian used the Shapeshifting Ship to maintain the Source Universe.

Because baby universes made it easier to replicate and devour a Source Universe's information. Once Shapeshifting Ships based on baby universes had replicated and devoured enough Source Universe information in the future, they could Substitute Peach for Plum, directly replacing the original Source Universe and successfully separating the Source Universe they wanted.
