A neutron bomb was a hydrogen bomb whose primary killing force came from high-energy neutron radiation.
Its characteristics were powerful nuclear radiation effects upon detonation, strong penetrating power, and relatively low energy release. Its blast wave, light radiation, thermal radiation, and radioactive contamination were all smaller than those of ordinary Nuclear Weapons.
Its more formal name was an enhanced-radiation weapon.
Compared to an ordinary nuclear bomb, such as the hydrogen bomb from earlier, even at the same yield, its blast wave, light radiation, and nuclear radiation were far weaker.
A neutron bomb primarily used the high-energy neutron radiation released at the moment of detonation to kill personnel. It had been developed specifically against biological flesh, caused little environmental damage, and was praised by military experts as the "God of War" of the human battlefield.
Generally speaking, a neutron bomb only needed a yield of a few kilotons. Human warfare did not require excessively powerful yields.
The ten-megaton neutron bomb launched from Oregon had been manufactured after the Pacific Ocean monster appeared, just in case.
"Hmm...?"
When the neutron bomb plunged into the fireball and detonated, the fireball swelled violently, as though a heart had suddenly begun pounding.
He-El felt the neutron bomb's blast wave and temperature, both lighter than before, and an odd expression appeared on his face.
This neutron bomb had only torn through three million layers of biological magnetic field barriers. It could not even destroy them as quickly as He-El could create and restore them, and was firmly blocked outside the barriers.
His cells could absorb almost any form of radiation energy. Facing this nuclear bomb was even easier for He-El than the previous one; it practically took no effort at all.
After a few seconds, once the high temperature and shockwave had passed, He-El directly withdrew the barrier layers. The neutron bomb's high-energy neutron radiation slammed into his skin, but his skin cells were like countless Devouring Monsters, swallowing every bit of incoming radiation without discrimination.
They had even eaten so much... he almost wanted to burp.
The people in the Oval Office were already going insane with turmoil. Someone began banging his head against the wall, utterly unwilling to believe that a living being could withstand two nuclear bombs and still stand within that massive fireball, its swaying black silhouette like a demon god descending into the world.
"You have to die. You have to die. You have to die... The world does not need gods." With all ten fingers clasped tightly before his chest, he kept praying under his breath. Tears even streamed from the corners of his eyes as he prayed more frantically for the alien's death.
"Don't lose heart, everyone. Victory still belongs to us."
The man whose cigar had fallen and burned a hole in the blue carpet saw the result of the second nuclear bomb. Seeing that demon-god-like figure still standing within the fireball, he trembled violently. He took out a fresh cigar and tried several times to light it, only to fail because his hands were shaking too badly. Forcing himself to remain calm, he clenched the unlit cigar between his teeth and said with trembling lips.
"There is still hope. There is still hope."
"I don't believe he can survive!"
"The last nuclear bomb is the strongest one!"
"We are the strongest on Earth!"
"We are the strongest country! This is Earth's strongest weapon!"
A group of nearly crazed people in power stared at the black figure inside the fireball on the screen, their faces twisted, breathing heavily, their eyes bloodshot and wide open.
The President's face sagged as he sat in his chair. He felt as though he had aged to the point of death in an instant, utterly weak as he slumped in his seat.
The figure within the fireball was simply too despairing.
This was the existence that symbolized peace for humanity on Earth.
The people in power across the entire world could no longer remain calm. Their faces were pale, ugly, and distorted with fear.
Nuclear bombs had always been hailed as humanity's strongest weapons, yet the being that had endured two of those strongest weapons was still standing at the center of the fireball. The thick mushroom-shaped black smoke seemed to be crowning him as a god.
The final nuclear bomb was launched from Nevada. It carried a seventy-megaton three-stage bomb, also called a "hydrogen-uranium bomb." Using natural uranium as its outer casing, it was a hydrogen bomb whose energy release proceeded through three stages—fission, fusion, then fission—and was currently Earth's most powerful Nuclear Weapon.
Russia had once test-detonated a fifty-megaton three-stage bomb called the Tsar. The fireball produced by the explosion had a radius of 4,600 meters, while its mushroom cloud was nearly 40 kilometers wide and approximately 64 kilometers high, more than seven times the elevation of Mount Everest.
The thermal wind from the explosion caused third-degree burns to people as far as 51 kilometers away. Its flash caused severe eye pain and burns to people 43 kilometers away, resulting in cataracts and blindness, while the shockwave spread outward over a range of nearly 100 kilometers.
Its power was equivalent to 3,864 Little Boy atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima during World War II.
The seventy-megaton three-stage bomb launched from Nevada was far more powerful than the Tsar. Its excessive weight caused it to arrive at its destination last, plunging directly into the enormous fireball.
Boom!
The enormous fireball over the Pacific Ocean pulsed violently from within like Earth's heart. Inside, it seemed as though a molten planetary core were churning, before it suddenly erupted in an even more intense explosion. The fireball expanded, directly swallowing the mushroom clouds from the previous two nuclear bombs and becoming a colossal blazing sphere beneath the clear night sky.
He-El was violently struck by the blast wave and a temperature of hundreds of millions of degrees. Of his thirty-eight million biological magnetic field barrier layers, eighteen million were instantly melted away, startling him somewhat.
After experiencing the first hydrogen bomb and the second neutron bomb, he had gained deeper memories and understanding of the fusion and fission reactions of nuclear bombs. Therefore, the biological magnetic field barrier layers he had rebuilt around his body after the second neutron bomb had been substantially improved.
He-El's use and intricate construction of biological magnetic fields were uniquely powerful. If it had still been a nuclear bomb on the level of the first hydrogen bomb, it would have consumed less than half as much—around eight million barrier layers would have been enough to withstand it.
But the power unleashed by the fission-fusion-fission stages of this seventy-megaton three-stage bomb was far more terrifying than that of the seventeen-megaton hydrogen bomb.
He-El continuously constructed more biological magnetic field barriers. The fluid within his cells began drawing forth tremendous energy, and for a time, He-El glowed brilliantly amid the heat and shockwave. After nearly three seconds of struggle, the immense force and temperature broke through his biological magnetic field barriers.
"Not enough!"
He-El laughed amid the nuclear explosion without the slightest concern. The biological magnetic field was merely an extension of his power. The true power and toughness of his body were greater than that of the biological magnetic field; his flesh was the true foundation of his strength.
After breaking through his biological magnetic field barriers, the temperature of hundreds of millions of degrees began burning from his chest as though it were setting paper alight. His fair skin was rapidly burned away, exposing beautifully defined, blood-red muscles and all manner of fibrous bones.
The next moment, the cells within He-El's body spread outward, radiating energy as they rapidly seized and repaired his epidermis. The temperature of hundreds of millions of degrees struggled with him as though competing for his skin, burning away his flesh. Yet the high temperature lasted too briefly. It had only just burned away He-El's fair skin several times before it retreated as swiftly as it had advanced, and He-El completely restored himself.
After that, the high temperature, already past its peak, could no longer harm He-El in the slightest.
"Nuclear weapons really are powerful. They actually broke through my biological magnetic field barriers and burned my skin."
He-El was in a pleasant mood. A faint red glow shone in his eyes, and the smile curling at his lips was cruel and merciless.
Once more, he spread his biological magnetic field beyond his body, enveloping the enormous orange-red fireball over fourteen thousand meters in diameter. Just as the giant orange-red fireball was about to form a mushroom cloud, it was shrouded by his biological magnetic field and forcibly made to rotate within it.
The fireball slowly rose, like a star evolving and ascending.
Amid the brilliant Stars in the clear night sky, he raised the enormous orange-red fireball of black smoke, fourteen thousand meters in diameter, atop his index finger like a star. His black hair fluttered wildly, his pupils burned crimson, and he looked down upon the world with a cruel, merciless smile.
