Washington.
The weather was beautiful, with clear blue skies and drifting white clouds.
Inside the Oval Office.
"Daddy, look at my leg. I can run really fast! Hee-hee."
Evans had a lean face, blue eyes, and slicked-back hair. Dressed in a fitted suit, he sat calmly and gently in the president's seat, holding a tablet as he video-called his daughter.
On the screen, an adorable little girl with a delicate, well-behaved face and flaxen hair kept running from afar toward the camera. Her tiny, chubby toes wiggled about like little pearls as she showed off her boundless energy.

He let out a slight breath.
His daughter was really difficult to handle.
Knock, knock, knock...
Someone began knocking on the Oval Office doors.
Evans gave a cough, adjusted his tie, and said in a low voice, "Come in."
The doors to the Oval Office opened. A burly man, broad and solid to the point of being slightly fat, stepped inside. Tall and imposing, with a wide face and sharp eyes, he gently closed the door behind him.
Miklos Wade, director of the CIA.
With broad, solid strides, Miklos approached the president's desk. After briefly greeting Evans, he directly handed over a USB drive and said, "president, what you asked for."
He had deliberately omitted the word "vice."
